Alex Tanguay: Joins AHL Iowa bench
Tanguay will become an assistant coach with AHL Iowa, which closes the door on his professional career.
Tanguay actually hasn't played in the NHL since 2015-16. Over the course of his 16-year career, the winger played for Calgary, Montreal, Tampa and Arizona, but will be best known for the nine seasons he spent with the Avalanche. In just his second year in the league, the Quebec native lifted Lord Stanley's cup, racking up 21 points in 23 postseason contests that year. In all, Tanguay saw action in 1088 games in which he tallied 283 goals and 580 assists.

Tanguay helped Arizona race out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, but St. Louis took control from there and registered the game's final five goals. The winger has taken a liking to playing with his new mates, registering 13 points in 15 contests since being traded before the deadline.

The veteran winger has certainly enjoyed the change of scenery this season. Since debuting with the Coyotes on March 5, he's put up 11 points with four goals and seven assists. That is stellar production when compared to his 22 points in 52 games with Colorado earlier in the year. Tanguay has three points over the last four games and should continue to be a solid producer over the final week of the regular season.

Tanguay continues to be on quite the roll with his new team out in Arizona. He's now tallied four goals and four assists with a plus-7 rating in nine games since being dealt to the desrt. That's a big change of pace from the 22 points he managed in 52 games with Colorado earlier this season. As long as he's scoring like this, the veteran winger can be rolled out with confidence.

Since coming to Arizona, the veteran winger has three goals and three assists in just five games. After not offering much in the way of fantasy value in Colorado this season, Tanguay has certainly put himself on the fantasy radar. This type of outburst isn't typical from the 36-year-old, so it could be tough for him to sustain it. However, there's nothing wrong with using him while he's hot.

While he's only scored twice this season, Tanguay has piled on four helpers in his last four games and is up to 12 points on the season. The veteran skated on the second line with Nathan Mackinnon and Jarome Iginla, in addition to playing on the second power-play unit, so he should continue to rack up points. While you can expect him to produce in a top-six role, his 24 shots on goal this season make it very hard for him to record goals, so look elsewhere if you're league relies heavily on goal-scoring.

Tanguay has missed Colorado's last 11 games with a knee injury he suffered on Nov. 6, but has participated in practice for over a week, and is now healthy enough to return to game action.
