Canadiens' Christian Folin: Returns to practice
Folin (undisclosed) skated with the team in Monday's training camp session, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports,
Folin was injured in the final game of the regular season before the league went on hiatus but appears to be ready for the postseason. In 16 games for the Habs this season, the 28-year-old blueliner managed just two points and 13 shots while averaging 14:26 of ice time. Given his limited offensive upside, and uncertainty to play every game, fantasy players will likely want to avoid Folin in both playoff pools and DFS contests.

Canadiens' Christian Folin: Questionable for Thursday
Folin did not practice Wednesday and is questionable for Thursday's game against the Sabres, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
The report doesn't provide details of the injury to Folin, who has played all nine games since returning from AHL Laval in mid-February. Karl Alzner is the likely fill-in if Folin is unavailable Thursday.

Folin was replaced by Xavier Ouellet on the third pairing. Both defensemen were called up from AHL Laval this week, as the Canadiens are dealing with an injury to Shea Weber (lower body), while Victor Mete battles the flu bug. Mete has managed to play the last two games. If the Habs feel Mete's illness is no longer an issue, they may jettison Folin or Ouellet this week.

Canadiens' Christian Folin: Scores first of season
Folin scored a goal on two shots and added three hits over 13:12 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Devils.
Folin, who was called up from AHL Laval on Monday as insurance, was needed when Victor Mete succumbed to the flu. The 28-year-old blueliner, playing an NHL game for the first time since Oct. 19, became an unlikely contributor from the third defensive pairing. His seeing-eye wrist shot was deflected by New Jersey's Travis Zajac to give Montreal its first lead of the night midway through the third period. Mete will have another day to recover before Thursday's game against Anaheim.

Folin spent the first three months of the season with the big club but played just five games, recording an assist and 14 hits. He's been able to play more in the AHL, but his numbers aren't eye-popping there, either. He'll travel with the team to New Jersey on Tuesday, but barring an injury, he's not expected to slot in.

Folin had played just five games with the Canadiens this season, registering one assist, so this news isn't quite surprising. The 28-year-old seemed to fall out of favor with the Habs coaching staff, and will look to jump start his season in the minors, assuming he clears. He has 43 points in 233 career NHL games, so this news likely won't have a big impact from a fantasy perspective.

Acquired in a four-player deal from Philadelphia in February, Folin has fit in well with Montreal, as he collected 65 hits to go along with 19 blocked shots and four points through 19 games in his new digs. He's never going to be an offensive dynamo, but every team needs those rugged stay-at-home types to provide the mortar to a goalie's wall in the cage -- for the Habs, that's Folin.

Folin was able to move his point total up to an underwhelming three in 27 games this campaign. The 28-year-old has been a force on the defensive side, however, racking up 63 hits and 61 blocks. With scarce power-play time and low point totals, the defenseman is better left on the waiver wire.

Canadiens' Christian Folin: Flipped to Montreal
Folin was traded from the Flyers to the Canadiens -- along with Dale Weise -- for David Schlemko and Byron Froese on Saturday, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
This move should give the Canadiens some extra depth on the blue line, and there's hope that Folin can start playing more regularly. The Swede only drew into 26 of a possible 54 games for the Flyers, adding a pair of helpers along the way. Even with the move, we can't see Folin earning 20-plus minutes with the Habs, therefore he can be left on the virtual waiver wire.

Folin has been a healthy scratch each of the last two games, which were both victories for the Flyers.
Philadelphia is on an eight-game winning streak, and while Folin has played in three of those contests, he has sat in the press box for the last two. Folin has gone long droughts without playing, and he has just two points -- both assists -- in 26 games this season. Only one of those assists have come in the last 24 contests. If he cracks the lineup again, Folin is only useful in the blocks and hits categories.
