  • Rangers' Julius Bergman: Given qualifying offer

The Rangers extended Bergman a qualifying offer Tuesday.

The Rangers just acquired Bergman and a pair of 2019 draft picks from the Blue Jackets in exchange for Adam McQuaid in February, so it's not surprising that they decided to retain his rights by sending him a qualifying offer. The 2014 second-round pick will play for Frolunda HC of the SHL in 2019-20, but the Rangers will get first dibs at signing him if he decides to return to North America in the future.

  • Rangers' Julius Bergman: Shipped to Big Apple

On Monday, the Blue Jackets traded Bergman and a pair of 2019 draft picks to the Rangers in exchange for Adam McQuaid, Kevin Weekes of NHL.com reports.

It's Bergman, a fourth-rounder in 2019 and a seventh-round selection this year for McQuaid. Bergman has six assists in 33 games with AHL Belleville (Ottawa's AHL affiliate) in 2018-19, but it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will get a shot to play at the top level this season as a member of New York. Whether he does or doesn't, Bergman will report to his new team after being traded there and hope a change of scenery helps his case for more time at the top level. It's the second time Bergman has been traded this month.

  • Blue Jackets' Julius Bergman: Headed to Columbus for now

Bergman and star forward Matt Duchene were traded to the Blue Jackets on Friday, with the Senators receiving prospects Vitaly Abramov and Jonathan Davidsson, a 2019 first-round pick and another conditional 2020 first-rounder, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

Bergman will likely be assigned to AHL Cleveland for the remainder of the season, and he'll almost certainly be moving on after that, as he's a pending restricted free agent and has been linked to Frolunda HC in his native Sweden for next year. Given that he's managed just six assists in 33 games for AHL Belleville, he can safely be ignored even if he does remain in North America for next year.

  • Senators' Julius Bergman: Brought in via trade

Bergman was moved to Ottawa on Tuesday as part of the deal that saw Mike Hoffman join the Sharks.

Ottawa also received Mikkel Boedker and a 2020 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Hoffman, Cody Donaghy, and a 2020 fifth-rounder. The Sens struck gold when they selected Swedish blueliner Erik Karlsson in the 2008 draft, so the club will hope that it's onto something after taking Bergman -- who's now a 22-year-old -- in the second round of the 2014 draft. Last season with AHL San Jose, he compiled 10 goals and 10 helpers in 65 outings, albeit with a concerning minus-20 rating. If Karlsson is moved this summer, it could open a spot on the 23-man roster for Bergman, who has yet to make his NHL debut.
