O'Connor put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way contract with the Predators on Saturday.
The battle for the backup job in Smashville figures to be a three-way competition between O'Connor, Juuse Saros and Marek Mazanec. Saros figures to have a leg up on the other netminders after having served as the No. 2 for much of the season, which means O'Connor would end up in AHL Milwaukee. Last year with AHL Binghamton, the 25-year-old logged a 14-18-1 record with a disappointing .895 save percentage.

Matt O'Connor: Won't receive qualifying offer from Ottawa
The Senators won't extend O'Connor a qualifying offer, Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch reports.
O'Connor will thus become an unrestricted free agent, but it remains to be seen whether any NHL clubs will express any interest in the 25-year-old backstop ahead of the 2017-18 campaign. The Boston University product struggled last season in 37 appearances with AHL Binghamton, compiling a 14-8-1 record while registering an ugly 3.23 GAA and .895 save percentage. He'll hope to sign with a team that's in need of AHL depth at goaltender.

Senators' Matt O'Connor: Headed back to Binghamton
O'Connor was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Sunday.
The 24-year-old netminder didn't see any action in goal since being recalled on Dec. 27, serving in a clear-cut backup role to Mike Condon. He will be replaced on the Senators' roster by Chris Driedger and will return to an AHL club with whom he sports a 2.90 GAA and .896 save percentage over 16 games this season. Even if he were to return to the top level, it's unlikely he would see much playing time or be effective enough if forced into the spotlight to warrant ownership in the vast majority of leagues.

O'Connor was summoned from AHL Binghamton on Tuesday.
With Craig Anderson (personal) and Andrew Hammond (high-ankle sprain) likely still unavailable Tuesday, O'Connor will rejoin the club and presumably serve as the backup to Mike Condon in Tuesday's game against the Rangers. He's played just one game in the NHL thus far in his career, but O'Connor could receive a chance at some point depending on how long the two other netminders are sidelined.

O'Connor was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Friday.
The Senators don't play again until Tuesday with the holiday break approaching, and there would be no reason to keep O'Connor in the NHL when the AHL team has four games on tap before the calendar flips to the new year. However, Andrew Hammond is on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, which might afford O'Connor a call-up in early 2017.

O'Connor was called up to the parent club on an emergency recall Saturday, with starter Craig Anderson attending to a personal matter at home and Andrew Hammond (lower body) ailing, but he didn't draw into game action with the work being assigned to Chris Driedger. Anderson has since returned, hence the reason for O'Connor going back to the minors following a trade by the Sens to acquire Mike Condon on Tuesday. O'Connor is merely a depth option at this stage.

O'Connor was summoned to the parent club from AHL Binghamton on Saturday, TSN's Bruce Garrioch reports.
The undrafted goalie from Ontario should be viewed as an insurance option with starter Craig Anderson (personal) and regular backup Andrew Hammond (lower body) uncertain to be available for Sunday's road contest against the Oilers. O'Connor was decent in three games with the Baby Sens prior to getting called up, going 1-2-0 with a 2.35 GAA and .919 save percentage. He joins Chris Driedger, who was pushed into duty Friday night against the Flames following the first-period injury to Hammond.

Senators' Matt O'Connor: Still looking for first AHL win
O'Connor stopped just 24 of 29 shots in AHL Binghamton's 5-1 loss to Syracuse on Friday.
He's playing on the worst team in the AHL, so these numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt, but O'Connor is now 0-8-2 with a 4.30 GAA and .859 save percentage. Bad team or not, those are abysmal numbers. O'Connor played three full seasons at Boston University, so it is a bit of surprise that he has struggled so badly out of the gate in his first professional season. He should improve considerably as the year drags on.

O'Connor was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Monday.
With the calling up of fellow goalie Chris Driedger to backup Craig Anderson while Andrew Hammond (head) remains out, O'Connor will be sent back down to the AHL for the time being. The 23-year-old still has plenty of time to progress and prove himself worthy of a gig in the majors.

O'Connor was recalled from AHL Binghamton on an emergency basis Sunday, Dean Brown of TSN 1200 reports.
O'Connor started the season with Ottawa due to an injury to Andrew Hammond. After making a single start, he was reassigned October 13, when Hammond returned from injury. Another injury to Hammond has prompted this recall for O'Connor, but there is no information as to the severity of Hammond's injury. Whether O'Connor plays or not during this stint has everything to do with how long Hammond will be out, if at all.

O'Connor has been sent down to AHL Binghamton with the news that Andrew Hammond is ready to return from a groin injury, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
O'Connor was able to make his NHL debut Sunday against the Habs, posting a .912 save percentage in the loss. He remains an emergency call-up option when injuries threaten the more established goalie group for the Sens.

O'Connor seemed the likely candidate to receive the start on the back end of back-to-back games Sunday. Fortunately, he'll avoid Carey Price, and will instead face the Canadiens' backup in Mike Condon, giving him a slightly better chance at notching a victory.

O'Connor has been recalled by the Senators in the wake of a groin injury to Andrew Hammond, Ian Mendes of TSN1200 reports, adding that he will serve as the backup to Craig Anderson for Thursday night's game against the Canadiens.Already regarded as one of the more promising goalie prospects in the NHL, O'Connor will be on hand in case Senators head coach Dave Cameron wants to let him stop pucks after Anderson at some point in Thursday's exhibition action. O'Connor is on a two-way, entry-level contract with the Senators. Last season was his third with Boston University, when he posted a 2.18 GAA and .927 save percentage.
