  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Re-signs with club

Valiev put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way deal with Calgary on Tuesday.

Valiev hasn't seen action in the NHL since 2017-18, spending all of the previous campaign in the minors with the Heat. In 57 contests, the 24-year-old notched four goals and 17 helpers. The blueliner will be hard-pressed to secure a spot on the 23-man roster for Opening Night versus Colorado on Oct. 3.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Seeking arbitration

Valiev filed for salary arbitration Friday.

Valiev spent the entire 2018-19 season with AHL Stockton, logging four goals, 17 assists and 51 PIM over 57 games. The 24-year-old could still have a shot at seeing a depth role on Calgary's blue line if both sides are able to negotiate a new deal at or before the arbitration hearings.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Gets QO from Calgary

Valiev earned a qualifying offer from the Flames on Tuesday.

Valiev failed to earn a call-up during the season, instead spending the entire campaign with the Heat where he racked up four goals, 17 helpers and 51 PIM in 57 outings. His offer sheet received is evidence that the club still values what he can bring to both the NHL and AHL level.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Called up from minors

Valiev was promoted from AHL Stockton on Wednesday as part of the Flames' Black Aces call-ups.

Valiev failed to earn a call-up during the season, instead spending the entire campaign with the Heat where he racked up four goals, 17 helpers and 51 PIM in 57 outings. The 23-year-old blueliner will be a restricted free agent this offseason and might not warrant an offer sheet from the club given how little he has been utilized in the NHL.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Shipped down to minors

Valiev was demoted to AHL Stockton on Saturday, TSN reports.

Valiev has yet to break into an NHL game for the Flames this season. In the minors, the blueliner tallied one goal, 11 helpers and 26 PIM in 36 contests. The 23-year-old will need to make an impact during training camp next fall if he wants to secure a permanent spot on the 23-man roster.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Brought up to big club

The Flames recalled Valiev from AHL Stockton on Saturday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Travis Hamonic is currently dealing with an upper-body injury, so Valiev will join the big club as an insurance policy in case Hamonic is unable to go Sunday against Carolina. The Russian blueliner has notched one goal and 12 points in 36 appearances this season.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Back down to Stockton

Valiev was reassigned to AHL Stockton on Monday.

Valiev was promoted to provide depth on defense in the wake of Mark Giordano's two-game suspension. With the Flames set to welcome their captain back Wednesday the time was right to send the youngster back down to the minors. In 20 games with AHL Stockton, the 23-year-old has three assists and carries a minus-4 rating.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Promoted to top level

Calgary recalled Valiev from AHL Stockton on Saturday.

The Flames only had six eligible defensemen prior to Valiev's promotion, so he'll likely round out their depth on the back end until Mark Giordano returns from his two-game suspension. The 2014 third-round pick has notched three assists in 20 AHL appearances this season.

  • Flames' Rinat Valiev: Brought in via three-player deal

Valiev -- along with Matt Taormina -- was acquired by the Flames from the Canadiens in a swap for Brett Kulak.

Vailev cleared waivers prior to being traded which clears the way for him to report to AHL Stockton, where he figures to spend the bulk of the upcoming season. The Russian has just 12 games of NHL experience and could earn a call-up or two this season.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Placed on waivers

Valiev was placed on waivers by the Canadiens on Tuesday, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Valiev played just two games for Montreal after he was acquired from Toronto in February. He was positioned to play out the final six weeks of the season, but a lower-body injury ended that experiment. Without the seasoning those six weeks may have given him, Valiev is likely headed back to the AHL to start the 2018-19 campaign. He will open the season with Laval if he clears waivers.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Agrees to one-year, two-way contract renewal

Valiev and the Canadiens agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract extension Thursday.

The two-way aspect of this deal gives the Habs roster some salary cap flexibility in case Valiev needs to refine his game in the AHL. A left-shooting rearguard, Valiev was acquired by Montreal in the deal that saw Tomas Plekanec wind up in Toronto last February. Valiev holds promise as a 2014 third-round draft pick, but he'll need to play more before fantasy owners can take him seriously. To date, he's only appeared in 12 games and has been held without a point in that span.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Redirected to minor league

Valiev (lower body) was reassigned to AHL Laval on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old defenseman has been used sparingly at the highest level since being acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline; we're talking two games and 11:49 of average ice time, amounting to a "cup of coffee" in sports parlance. He must be healthy, though, as he needed to be medically cleared in order to wind up with the team's top developmental affiliate.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Unfit to play Wednesday

Valiev (lower body) won't be ready to play Wednesday evening against the Penguins, per Arpon Basu of The Athletic Montreal.

The 22-year-old defenseman is about to miss his seventh straight contest. Originally drafted by the Maple Leafs with a 2014 third-round pick, Valiev carries long-term upside, but he can be safely disregarded in all redraft formats at this time.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Out of lineup Monday

Valiev (lower body) isn't ready to return for Monday's tilt against Florida, Jean-Francois Chaumont of Le Journal de Montreal reports.

So far in his NHL career, Valiev hasn't been able to notch a point in 12 games with Toronto and Montreal, and he'll have to wait until at least Wednesday against Pittsburgh to get his next opportunity. While he remains out, Brett Lernout should continue to draw into the lineup.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Doesn't seem ready

Valiev (lower body) is projected to be scratched Saturday evening against host Toronto, allhabs.net reports.

It's fun watching players suit up against their former team, but it appears Valiev -- who was traded from the Maple Leafs in the Tomas Plekanec deal -- will miss his fifth consecutive game. This probably won't cause a stir in the fantasy realm, as the defenseman is just getting started on his NHL career and doesn't receive enough playing time even when healthy to warrant a look in virtual settings.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Out again Monday

Valiev (lower body) won't play against the Blue Jackets on Monday.

This will be the second game in a row that Valiev has missed. However, he's hardly made enough impact for the Canadiens to feel his absence too badly. The 22-year-old has spent most of the season in the AHL and has played in only two games with Montreal. Valiev only has until Tuesday to get healthy for the Habs' next contest, so he may be in line to miss another one.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Still sidelined

Valiev (lower body) will miss a third straight contest Tuesday against Dallas.

Valiev has gone scoreless in two games with Montreal this campaign, so his absence will likely go unnoticed by most fantasy owners. The Canadiens should provide an update on his status once he's deemed fit to play.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Out Saturday

Valiev (lower body) isn't expected to play Saturday afternoon against the Lightning, NHL.com reports.

Valiev is a projected scratch, whereas AHL Laval call-up Brett Lernout is likely to be inserted on the third pair on the right side of Jordie Benn. This won't have fantasy hockey implications since Valiev has yet to record a point through 12 games since originally debuting with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16.

  • Canadiens' Rinat Valiev: Leaves Thursday's game

Valiev (lower body) will not return to action Thursday night against Florida.

Brought to Montreal as part of the Tomas Plekanec trade, Valiev was playing in just his second game as a Canadien on Thursday. The 22-year-old blueliner has 15 points in 41 AHL games this season but has yet to register a point in his NHL career. Hopefully the injury isn't too serious for the young defenseman.
