Jason Pominville: Playing days likely over
Pominville admitted in an interview earlier this month with Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News that his playing career is likely over. "I viewed the odds of [playing a 16th NHL season] happening as very, very, very slim," Pominville said. "I was prepared for it. I wasn't by any means disappointed. Obviously, it would have been nice to get a call from some contender looking for a veteran...I can't see myself playing anywhere next year, especially after not playing for over a year. I'm past it and over it. It's definitely been a fun ride."
After hitting free agency last summer, the 37-year-old Pominville didn't have much of a market for his services after scoring just 31 points in 2018-19, his fewest of any professional season in which he skated at least 60 games. Though he has seemingly kept himself in shape over the past few months with the hope of latching on somewhere around the NHL in the event an opportunity popped up, Pominville ultimately failed to garner much interest. He'll likely make a formal retirement announcement later in 2020, spelling an official end to a 15-year career split between Buffalo and Minnesota. Over 1,060 regular-season games, Pominville netted 293 goals and tallied 434 assists, earning one All-Star nod (in 2011-12) along the way.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Ends point drought
Pominville picked up an assist in Thursday's loss to the Red Wings.
Pominville's assist ended an eight-game point drought. He's currently skating on Buffalo's second line, but the drought caused him to be a healthy scratch for a pair of games. The apple gives him 29 points in 69 games on the campaign, which isn't too far off from the 34 points he tallied last year. However, 13 of those points came during a seven-game hot streak. That would give him 16 points in the other 62 contests -- a far less attractive statistic.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Dishes apple in loss
Pominville registered an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Oilers on Monday.
Pominville has found himself on the third line in recent games, and it was there that he earned the secondary helper on a Casey Mittelstadt goal. Over his last 10 games, Pominville has two goals and three assists while firing 18 shots on goal. The 36-year-old winger has racked up 28 points in 60 contests this season, and he should finish the season around 35 points barring an injury down the stretch.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Scores game-winner
Pominville scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Tuesday's victory over the Islanders.
Pominville is playing on the top line alongside Jack Eichel, and he's producing more as a result. Pominville has three points -- all goals -- in his past six contests. He had just a goal and an assist in the previous 22 games. He's up to 23 points in 50 games, and has value as long as he doesn't move down the depth chart.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Nets goal
Pominville picked up a goal in Friday's loss to Chicago.
Pominville had been held pointless in his past four outings, leading to him being scratched for Wednesday's game against Dallas. It was just his second goal in 25 games, leaving him with 11 on the season. He has gradually become less effective as the months have gone by, losing stock in fantasy leagues across the board.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Fantasy population dwindling
Pominville, who failed to score in 8:38 of ice time Saturday against the Bruins, has scored only one goal in 23 games since Nov. 3 and was recently moved to the fourth line, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Pominville started the year hot -- at one point he had 13 points over a seven-game stretch -- but that's when he was skating with Jack Eichel on the top line, and his game has regressed tremendously since. He's averaging a career-low 12:45 of ice time and has played less than nine minutes the last two games, even with the Sabres scrambling for forward help with Eichel on the shelf. Pominville has also seen just 14 seconds of power-play time over the last 10 games combined, while he rarely skates in overtime games because, at 36 years of age, he can no longer keep up with younger, speedier players. He's a great locker-room presence for an up-and-coming team and there's still a role for him, it's just not one that relates to fantasy production any longer.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Ready to rock
Pominville (undisclosed) will return to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Bruins, Jourdon LaBarber of Sabres.com reports.
Pominville is expected to return to a bottom-six role, skating with Vladimir Sobotka and Tage Thompson on the Sabres' third line. The veteran forward has been a solid source of secondary scoring for Buffalo this season, notching nine goals and 18 points in 33 contests, but he's nothing more than a low-end bench option in most fantasy formats.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Questionable against Boston
Pominville (undisclosed) practiced Friday and could return to action Saturday against the Bruins.
Pominville could end up being a game-time decision for Saturday's contest, so owners considering slotting him into their lineups will want to check back prior to puck drop for confirmation on his status. If he's able to go, Pominville will likely bump Zemgus Girgensons from the lineup.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Stays back in Buffalo
Pominville (undisclosed) didn't make the trip to St. Louis and will be out of the lineup for Thursday's matchup, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Pominville is considered day-to-day by the team, although he remains on injured reserve. The fact that the club couldn't practice Wednesday appears to have weighed heavily on the decision to hold Pominville out for another game. If he can join his teammates on the ice Friday, he might be available against Boston on Saturday.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Will not play
Pominville (undisclosed) will miss Friday's game with the Capitals.
There was a chance that Pominville would play in Friday's game, but he'll sit out in favor of Remi Elie. Pominville only skated for 7:20 worth of ice time before leaving Tuesday's game. His next chance to return will be Saturday versus the Ducks.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Hits IR
Pominville (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Friday, per the NHL's official media site.
Pominville was ruled out for Friday's game against the Capitals, but his placement on IR guarantees he will sit out Saturday against the Ducks as well. He will be eligible to return for the first game out of the holiday break next Thursday versus the Blues, while Remi Elie -- who is subbing in Friday -- will presumably slot into Saturday's lineup as well.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Considered day-to-day
Pominville (undisclosed) was labeled day-to-day by coach Phil Housley on Thursday.
The bench boss didn't provide any details regarding the nature or severity of Pominville's injury, so it's possible he could still be in action during the club's back-to-back Friday and Saturday versus Washington and Anaheim, respectively. If the veteran is unavailable, Remi Elie figures to slot back into the lineup following a seven-game stint in the press box as a healthy scratch.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Exits after taking teammate hit
Pominville left Tuesday's game versus the Panthers after teammate Rasmus Ristolainen ran into him at center ice, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Pominville didn't return to the game and Sabres coach Phil Housley had no update afterwards. The team may make an immediate recall with the NHL roster freeze kicking in on Wednesday and since the Sabres only have one more healthy forward, Remi Elie, remaining.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Not listed on injury report
Pominville (undisclosed) was not among the players named on the Sabres' injury report Thursday.
It would appear Pominville is healthy and ready to go for Saturday's matchup with Philadelphia. Where the winger slides back into the lineup remains to be seen, but unless he returns to Jack Eichel's line, he is unlikely to offer much in terms of fantasy production.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Remains sidelined
Pominville (undisclosed) won't play Tuesday against Toronto, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Pominville practiced for a second consecutive day Tuesday and is definitely nearing a return to game action, but he'll have to wait for Saturday's matchup with Philadelphia for his next opportunity to do so. The veteran forward has notched nine goals and 18 points in 27 contests this season. The injury is thought to be a back problem with perhaps another small issue to go with it, but the team hasn't been willing to offer many specifics for the veteran other than his practice and game status.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Targeting Tuesday return
Pominville (undisclosed) -- who was previously ruled out Monday against Nashville -- is hoping to be ready for Tuesday's matchup with Toronto, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Pominville was thriving on the Sabres' top line along side Jack Eichel, but since being bumped from that role, has just one assist in his last seven games. Unless he can earn back that plum assignment, the winger will likely offer minimal fantasy value.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Still with team, but not playing
Due to some confusion, it was reported that Pominville (undisclosed) had returned to Buffalo for reevaluation. In actuality, he's still with the team, but will not play Monday against the Predators as previously stated, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
In the end, all confusion aside, the takeaway is the same for fantasy owners. Pominville won't play Monday, and it seems like there's a good chance he won't play Tuesday, either. The 36-year-old has nine goals and nine assists through 27 games, so the Sabres will be happy to get him back when he's healthy.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Not playing Monday
Pominville (undisclosed) went to Buffalo for a medical evaluation and will not suit up for Monday's contest in Nashville, John Vogl of The Athletic reports.
Pominville is in the middle of his best offensive season since the 2014-15 season with nine goals and 18 points through 27 games. For now, he should be considered day-to-day until more information on his injury is available.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Production slowing down
Pominville has no points in his past three games.
Pominville has just four points in his last 11 outings, and has seen his role reduced along the way. Formerly playing alongside Jack Eichel on the top line and top power-play unit, Pominville is now on the third even-strength line and second power-play unit. He's still a valuable player, posting 18 points in 25 games. Just don't expect the level of production he had in late October (13 points in seven games) on a consistent basis.

Sabres' Jason Pominville: Notches game-winner against Wild
Pominville scored the game-winner with only 90 seconds left in the third period and added an assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Wild.
The veteran forward had only one point (an assist) in his prior five games, but Pominville shook off his mini-slump in strong fashion Saturday. He now has nine goals and 17 points in 20 games on the season, and skating alongside Jack Eichel has him potentially on track for his first 30-goal campaign since 2013-14, and his first 70-point season since his first stint with the Sabres back in 2011-12.
