Dan Hamhuis: Calls it quits
Hamhuis announced Thursday that he has chosen to retire from hockey.
The timing is certainly interesting for Hamhuis after he failed to suit up in any postseason action for the Predators in the NHL's 'bubble.' The 37-year-old enjoyed an outstanding 16-year career in the NHL, however, spending time with Nashville, Vancouver and Dallas. A member of the elusive 1,000-game club, Hamhuis accumulated 52 goals and 330 points over his career. Although a staple on the back end chose to retire in a Predators uniform, the team has a bright future ahead of it with youngsters Dante Fabbro, Alexandre Carrier and David Farrance.

Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Scratched for Game 1
Hamhuis is a healthy scratch for Game 1 against Nashville.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Nashville was expected to rotate the bottom pairing of the blue line between Hamhuis, Korbinian Holzer, Yannick Weber and Jarred Tinordi. For Game 1, Weber and Tinordi got the nod.

Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Healthy for restart
Hamhuis (lower body) will be available for the Predators' play-in series against the Coyotes, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.
Hamhuis missed the final four games prior to the league shutdown due to his lower-body injury but appears to have used the time off to fully recover. With the veteran back in action, the final spot on the blue line could be a game-to-game decision by the coaching staff between Korbinian Holzer, Yannick Wever and Jarred Tinordi.

The 37-year old Hamhuis is now in the twilight of his career, averaging his lowest-ever ice time at just 14:43 per game skating on the team's third defensive pairing. Now in the final year of a two-year, $2.5 million contract, Hamhuis will likely be looking for another team to play for next season as the Preds have a lot of young, up-and-coming defensemen who can join their ranks next year. Hamhuis skated just 11:41 in Monday's 3-2 win over the Coyotes, his lowest ice time of the season.
Surprisingly, the 36-year-old Hamhuis has skated in 34 of a possible 36 games so far this season after suiting up just 57 times all of last year. However, with Hamhuis' two-year contract with the Preds set to expire at the end of this season, and top defensive prospects Alexandre Carrier and Frederic Allard waiting in the wings, don't be surprised if this turns out to be Hamhuis' last season in Nashville. He has just 10 points in 91 games over the past two seasons.

Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Adds helper Saturday
Hamhuis posted an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Devils.
Hamhuis had the primary helper on Daniel Carr's opening tally just 46 seconds into the game. Points have been hard to come by for the defenseman -- he's at three assists and just 17 shots in 26 contests. Hamhuis has added 39 hits and 21 blocked shots this season, but his lack of offense and third-pairing role will keep most fantasy owners away.

Hamhuis picked up his second assist of the season during Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Winnipeg.
The 36-year-old defenseman is not the point producer he once was, with Hamhuis only managing two points through 18 games this season. His 14:31 of ice time per game is a career-low and proof that his role with Nashville comes with a limited scope, making the veteran blueliner a forgettable commodity in 2019-20 fantasy leagues.

The good news is Hamhuis played in his ninth straight game Thursday against the Flames after sitting out as a healthy scratch for two consecutive contests earlier in October. However, he has yet to crack the scoresheet this season, which may not come as much of a surprise after he registered just five points in 57 games last year. The 36-year-old defender is in the final year of a two-year, $2.5 million contract and it will be interesting to see whether or not he decides to call it a career after this season. In the meantime, he shouldn't be in anyone's fantasy lineup.

Hamhuis should wear the leadership hat quite well, but he's hardly a viable fantasy option with only five points representing his point total through 53 games this season.
