After 33 games without a goal (and just four assists), it's nice for him to bust through, but those other stats tell the story of Colaiacovo's fantasy potential. In a word -- okay, two words -- it's nearly nil.

Sabres' Carlo Colaiacovo: Cleared to return
Colaiacovo (lower body) will play in Saturday's meeting with the Maple Leafs.
Colaiacovo has failed to record a point since early December and is currently riding a 14-game scoring drought. The defenseman's fantasy value is further diminished by his lack of ice time, as he is averaging 14:27 per game, which is less than some forwards on the team. With the 33-year-old healthy enough to return, Chad Ruhwedel was reassigned to AHL Rochester.

Sabres' Carlo Colaiacovo: Doubtful for Friday
Colaiacovo (lower body) did not attend practice Thursday and the Sabres called up two players from the AHL on Friday, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Colaiacovo is considered day-to-day, but his lower-body ailment is serious enough to force him to miss Friday's game. Chad Ruhwedel was called up from AHL Rochester and will likely take his spot on the team's third pairing.

Colaiacovo will play Tuesday against Florida, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.
The veteran depth defenseman will appear in his 20th game this season after sitting for 11 straight games. He has four assists and averages 15:53 of ice time per game, which means he'll likely end up playing his usual third-pairing minutes. Mike Weber will sit as the Sabres host the Panthers. With Mark Pysyk (lower body) returning soon, the Sabres will have a logjam on defense with eight healthy players. This could be an audition to see what Colaiacovo brings to the table as the Sabres will find it tough to rotate eight defensemen and be forced to make a roster move.

Colaiacovo (neck) has been cleared to play in Tuesday night's contest with the Red Wings, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.
Colaiacovo sustained a dented trachea after taking a cross check to the throat in a game against the Predators last Saturday, but he reportedly practiced Monday and is ready to rock after receiving a clean evaluation. The defenseman only has two points in 15 games, but he provides depth for the Sabres who are sans Mark Pysyk (lower body).

Colaiacovo suffered a dented trachea and needed to be hospitalized after taking a cross check to the throat Saturday, but it appears he avoided more serious damage. His status has not been officially confirmed, but the defenseman appears likely to play in Tuesday's tilt against the Red Wings.

Sabres' Carlo Colaiacovo: Flying with team to Detroit
Colaiacovo (neck) will join the Sabres on their flight to Detroit in advance of Tuesday's matchup against the Red Wings, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
After departing from Saturday's game against the Predators upon taking a puck to the throat, Colaiacovo was hospitalized and diagnosed with a "dented trachea." Despite the serious-sounding nature of the injury, it doesn't sound like it will sideline Colaiacovo for extensive time, given that he's already been cleared to travel with the team. However, the team will likely reevaluate his condition Monday before determining if he'll be available to suit up against Detroit.

Sabres' Carlo Colaiacovo: Bruised trachea after cross check to throat
Colaiacovo has a "dented trachea," reports CBC's Hockey Night in Canada citing Sabres' coach Dan Bylsma. He was cross checked in the throat by the Pred's Viktor Arvidsons.
Colaiacovo just cannot catch a break -- he's almost guaranteed to miss time each year because of an injury. We don't know how long he'll be out, but suffice to say a bruised trachea isn't fixed with a dab of rubbing alcohol and a couple of gauze pads.
