Hainsey played 1,132 games for eight different teams, recording 59 goals and 311 points in the process. The Boston native won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in the 2016-17 campaign. He decided to hang up the skates at 40 years old.

One of Hainsey's primary roles on this Senators team is to help Erik Brannstrom transition to the NHL. He's not likely to be around when Ottawa is ready to contend for a title, and he's embraced the fact that he's not a scorer on this team. Don't expect much from Hainsey in fantasy formats.

Hainsey scored a goal on two shots and was plus-2 in Monday's 6-2 win over the Rangers.
The veteran defenseman crept in from the point and tapped home a Brady Tkachuk feed to put the Senators up 3-1 early in the second period. It was the first goal of the season for Hainsey and stood as the eventual winner, snapping a nine-game point drought in the process. The 38-year-old had five goals and 23 points in 81 games with Toronto last year but he may be hard-pressed to approach those totals with an inferior Ottawa club.

Anyone who owns Hainsey is finding out the hard way that there's a major drop-off that comes with going from the high-flying Maple Leafs to the rebuilding Senators. Hainsey should be more productive as time goes on, but another 20-point season might be beyond his reach with this Ottawa squad.

Senators' Ron Hainsey: Signs with Senators
Hainsey signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Ottawa on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
At 38, Hainsey will be one of the oldest players in the NHL in 2019-20, but he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down over the past two years, putting up back-to-back 23-point campaigns while appearing in 161 of a possible 164 regular-season contests with the Maple Leafs. The 14-year veteran will likely step into a middle-pairing role with the Senators this season and should be able to crack the 20-point threshold for a third straight campaign.

Maple Leafs' Ron Hainsey: Readying for Game 1
Hainsey was back at Monday's practice after he was held out of Saturday's game against the Canadiens due to rest, Paul Hendrick of the Maple Leafs' official site reports.
Hainsey -- who was held out of the regular-season finale -- was back at it Monday alongside Morgan Rielly on the Leafs' first pairing. The 38-year-old was able to produce 23 points in 81 games this campaign. He was also a force on the defensive side, racking up 91 hits and 144 blocks.
