  • Red Wings' Kevin Boyle: Joins taxi squad

  • Red Wings' Kevin Boyle: Heading to AHL

Boyle was demoted to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday. Boyle had been on Detroit's practice squad for most of the season but is pretty far down on the organizational depth chart. He'll see more action in the minors, where he recorded a .911 save percentage and 2.82 GAA in 20 games with AHL San Diego last season.

  • Red Wings' Kevin Boyle: Shifted to taxi squad

Boyle was designated for the taxi squad by the Red Wings on Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Boyle reportedly joins fellow goaltender Calvin Pickard on the six-man taxi squad ahead of Opening Night against the visiting Hurricanes on Thursday. Last season, Boyle played exclusively for AHL San Diego, posting a 2.82 GAA and .911 save percentage between 20 contests.

  • Red Wings' Kevin Boyle: Pens deal in Motor City

Boyle signed a one-year contract with the Red Wings on Friday. Boyle has spent the better part of the last four years with AHL San Diego, but he played five games with the Ducks during the 2018-19 season and performed quite well, recording a .928 save percentage but a 1-3-0 record. The Red Wings chose not to re-sign Jimmy Howard, and if they don't bring in another netminder, Boyle and incumbent Calvin Pickard will battle to be Jonathan Bernier's backup next season.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: On wrong end of shutout

Boyle made 25 saves on 29 shots, but fell 4-0 to the Canucks on Monday. His teammates couldn't find a way to crack Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom in this affair. Boyle's record drops to 1-3 with a 2.17 GAA and a .928 save percentage. Boyle was backed up by career minor-leaguer Angus Redmond as John Gibson (upper body), Ryan Miller (undisclosed) and Chad Johnson (head) were all unavailable. Gibson is getting closer to returning, and Boyle will likely find himself in AHL San Diego if Miller's injury is short term.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: Yields two scores in loss

Boyle allowed two goals on 21 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Oilers on Saturday. The rookie still hasn't allowed more than two goals in a game, but this was his worst performance based on save percentage (.905) in his four NHL appearances. He is now 1-2-0 with a 1.66 GAA and .945 save percentage in four NHL games. If he continues to play well, Boyle could continue to start until John Gibson returns from his upper-body injury.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: Starting Saturday

Boyle will defend the cage in Saturday's road tilt against Edmonton, Eric Stephens of The Athletic reports. Saturday marks Boyle's third NHL start -- he made his debut in relief -- and he's gone 1-1-0 with a 1.51 GAA and .955 save percentage thus far. His opponent Saturday, the Oilers, will be without Connor McDavid (suspension), but will be led by the red-hot Leon Draisaitl, who has four goals and seven points over his past five games.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: Suffers first NHL loss

Boyle stopped 26 of 28 shots but was on the wrong end of Friday's 3-0 shutout at the hands of the Bruins. Boyle blanked the Canucks on Wednesday in a 1-0 win, but has now seen the other side of the coin with this defeat. Boyle is 1-1-0 over three appearances (two starts), with a 1.51 GAA and .955 save percentage. If he continues to play well, he should keep John Gibson's seat warm while the latter is out with an upper-body injury.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: Rejoins NHL ranks

The Ducks summoned Boyle from AHL San Diego on Friday. The recall of Boyle from the minor ranks suggests that John Gibson (upper body) -- who did not practice Friday -- will not be available Saturday. At the very least, Boyle is an insurance plan as a backup in the event Gibson can't suit up. Either way, Boyle seems unlikely to see the crease Saturday barring an injury to Chad Johnson, who would presumably start if Gibson can't go.

  • Ducks' Kevin Boyle: Agrees to extension

Boyle agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Ducks, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Boyle spent the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign in the AHL, where he secured a record of 19-13-1 across 35 games games played while owning a 2.66 GAA. That earned him an extension with the Ducks, though he's unlikely to see a ton of time with the big club looking ahead to the upcoming campaign. Boyle likely won't be a viable fantasy target.
