Cam Ward: Retires with Hurricanes
Ward signed a one-day contract with Carolina on Wednesday to retire as a member of the Hurricanes.
As a 21-year-old rookie, Ward went 15-8 with a 2.14 GAA in the 2006 playoffs to help the 'Canes lift Lord Stanley's cup on his way to winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. The veteran netminder would spend 13 seasons playing in Carolina, in which he posted a 318-244-84 record and .909 save percentage. After playing for the Blackhawks last year, Ward will hang up his pads and call it a career, finishing 23rd overall on the career wins lists.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Sees barrage of shots in loss
Ward allowed four goals on 49 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Predators on Saturday.
Everything was looking good early for the veteran goaltender, who held a 2-0 lead after the first period. Then everything went south, as the Predators posted 36 shots and five goals in the final two periods. Despite this loss, Ward still posted a strong second half, going 9-4-0 after Jan. 21. Even with the hot streak at the end, though, Ward still had some of the worst overall numbers of his career. He went 16-12-4 with a 3.69 GAA and .897 save percentage in 33 games during 2018-19.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Starting in Nashville
Ward will defend the blue paint in Saturday's road matchup with the Predators, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Ward was forced into action unexpectedly Friday against Dallas after Corey Crawford suffered a groin injury, and he performed admirably, turning aside 25 of 26 shots en route to a convincing 6-1 victory. The veteran netminder will look to stay sharp and end the season on a high note by securing his 17th win of the campaign in a road matchup with a Nashville team that's only averaging 2.83 goals per game at home in 2018-19, 25th in the NHL.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Picks up win in relief
Ward stopped 25 of 26 shots after replacing Corey Crawford (groin) early in the second period of Friday's 6-1 win over the Stars.
The strong relief effort earned Ward his 16th win of the season. The veteran netminder hasn't been particularly consistent in his first campaign with Chicago, but with Crawford banged up once again, Ward will likely be in net for the season finale Saturday in Nashville.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Comes through in shootout
Ward turned aside 37 of 40 shots in regulation and overtime, and all three shootout attempts he faced, in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Blues.
Making his first start in a month, the netminder got beaten twice in the final eight minutes of the third period just to send the game into OT, but Ward shut the door on the St. Louis comeback attempt after that. The Hawks end their season with one last back-to-back set this weekend, so the 35-year-old could see action once more and get a shot at his 16th win before hitting the links.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Back to full health
Ward has fully recovered from a knee injury, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports.
Ward has yet to suit up since Mar. 3, and seems to have finally shaken off the injury bug. The 35-year-old has a 14-11-0 record to go along with a 3.72 GAA and .893 save percentage this campaign. It's unclear if Ward will start Saturday's game in Montreal, but third-stringer Collin Delia was shipped back to AHL Rockford.

Blackhawks' Cam Ward: Still sidelined
Ward (knee) isn't in the projected lineup for Wednesday's game against Toronto, NHL.com's Dave McCarthy reports.
Ward is still recovering from the knee injury he sustained March 3 against the Sharks and will have to wait for Saturday's matchup with Montreal for his next opportunity to rejoin the lineup. Collin Delia will continue to serve as Corey Crawford's backup until Ward is cleared to return.

The Blackhawks erased deficits in the first and second periods, but the Sharks ran away with the game in the third. Ward dropped to 14-11-4 with a 3.72 GAA and a .893 save percentage. He's given up 21 goals in his last five appearances -- four starts -- and cannot be trusted to produce wins consistently. With Corey Crawford back in the fold, Ward will face pressure for starts for the remainder of the season.

Ward allowed four goals on 35 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory against the Red Wings on Wednesday.
It looked like the 34-year-old and the Blackhawks were cruising to an easy victory, but the Red Wings stormed back with three third-period goals to send the game into overtime. Ward still earned the victory, but the third period severely hurt his save percentage. While he improved to 14-9-4, his numbers worsened elsewhere. He now owns a 3.69 GAA and an .894 save percentage in 28 appearances this season.

Ward has a sterling 7-3-0 record since the calendar flipped to 2019, albeit with a 3.33 GAA and .908 save percentage over that span. While his teammates are frequently bailing him out, Ward clearly earned the 'W' against these Red Wings on Feb. 10, as he stood on his head and redirected 43 of 45 shots in front of the home crowd. Consider streaming him as a low-budget DFS option against a Detroit team that has virtually no chance of making the playoffs.

Ward stopped 24 of 28 shots in the final 52 minutes of action Monday, earning an 8-7 win over Ottawa.
This wasn't a great performance from Ward by any means, but it could have been a lot worse considering how things were going in this contest. However, caution is a wise idea given that he's allowed nine goals in his past two appearances.

This performance will ruin a lot of the good faith Ward built up with owners to begin this month. The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak in which Ward posted a .943 save percentage. Still, Ward is 8-4-0 with a .911 save percentage since Dec. 18. Considering he is 12-9-4 with a 3.66 GAA and an .896 save percentage overall this season, owners will certainly take his more recent performances.
