Kevin Klein: Announces retirement
Klein will hang up his skates after playing in Switzerland the past two season.
Klein briefly retired in July of 2017, but was lured back onto the ice by ZSC Lions. The blueliner played in 627 NHL over 12 years with the Predators and Rangers and racked up 38 goals, 116 assists and 10 game-winning goals. The 34-year-old -- who was drafted by Nashville with the 37th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft -- added another 19 points in 73 playoffs contests, as well.

Kevin Klein: Not done yet
Klein -- who retired from the NHL on July 7 -- signed with Swiss club ZSC Lions on Friday.
Despite registering a mere 14 points last year, Klein will look to extend his professional career by suiting up overseas. While it seems unlikely, a solid season with the Lions could open the door for the 32-year-old to return to the NHL down the road -- although it would probably need to be a minimum-salary deal for a third-pairing assignment.

Kevin Klein: Officially calls it a career
Klein, a defenseman who last played for the Rangers, announced his retirement from the NHL on Friday.
A proficient shot blocker, Klein was more of a stay-at-home type over 12 years of service time split between the Predators and Rangers. Still, while donning the blue sweater, he managed 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 94 games to complement a gaudy shooting percentage of 12.4 versus Metropolitan Division opponents. Hockey fans from the Big Apple will remember him as the guy who lost part of his left ear from a high stick in a 2014 contest against the Penguins; he had it sewn back on in time to put an overtime game-winning goal in the bag.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: May retire from NHL, head overseas
Klein is considering retiring from the NHL and continuing his career in Europe, the New York Post reports.
After surprising with a pair of nine-goal, 26-point campaigns for the Rangers, Klein sagged to just 14 points over 60 games in an injury-shortened 2016-17, and he was a healthy scratch for all but one of the club's playoff games. No final decision has been made, but Klein reportedly had a going-away party this past weekend, so it seems likely that the physical blueliner will indeed retire. If he does, his NHL career will conclude with 38 goals and 154 total points in 627 games, with almost half those points coming in his 224 games as a Ranger.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Returns to lineup Friday
Klein (back) is slated to return to the lineup Friday against the Penguins after missing Tuesday's game against the Sharks, the Rangers' official site reports.
Per the report, Klein will be paired with Marc Staal in his return to action Friday. With 14 points and 31 PIM in 55 games to date, Klein's fantasy impact apart from blocks (112) and hits (128) has been modest, with the exception of his two-goal effort against the Avs on Feb. 11.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Will sit Tuesday
Klein will not suit up for Tuesday night's game in San Jose after feeling some tightness in his back following Sunday's contest in Anaheim.
This pesky back injury has been hampering Klein for the better part of the season's second half, and it's unclear at this point how it will affect him going forward. Between the injury problems and his limited effectiveness on offense, he's not a recommended play for the fantasy playoffs. Dan Girardi will slot back into the lineup Tuesday in Klein's place.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Ready to return Sunday
Klein (back) will slot into the lineup for Dan Girardi (healthy scratch) against the Ducks on Sunday.
So ends a lengthy 16-game absence for Klein, though it's entirely likely that his minutes will be limited upon his return to the lineup. Either way, Klein's 14 points on the season limit his offensive upside and thus prevent him from being a suitable option on the blue line in the majority of fantasy formats.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Out again Saturday
Klein (back) won't play Saturday against the Kings.
Klein has yet to play a game in March, and none since February 21. He has been cleared to play, and the latest reports indicate that he should be able to return Sunday or Tuesday.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Closing in on return
Klein (back) has been medically cleared to play, but he still will not suit up for Tuesday night's away game against the Devils. He'll be with the team on its California road trip, meaning that he isn't likely to be ready for Wednesday's contest against the Islanders.
With Klein and Dan Girardi (ankle) still ailing, the Rangers will have to dig into their defensive depth for at least another game or two before getting two of their go-to defensemen back in the lineup. That could include Steve Kampfer, who has notched two points in his last five games for New York.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Won't return Tuesday
Klein (back) skated during practice, but won't play in Tuesday's tilt in New Jersey, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
The defenseman has missed the last 13 games with his back injury, but still needs a bit more time off. With 14 points in 54 games, he isn't much of a fantasy threat unless you're in a league that gives weight to hits, of which he has 127.

Rangers' Kevin Klein: Rejoins practice
Klein (back) took part in practice Thursday, albeit in a non-contact jersey.
Fantasy owners will certainly be encouraged by seeing Klein back on the ice, but his timeline to return remains up in the air until he is cleared for contact. With the Rangers facing back-to-back contests with little practice time in between, the blueliner should probably be considered doubtful for Friday and Saturday's matchups against Florida and Minnesota, respectively.
