Chris Higgins: Joins Vancouver staff
Higgins will return to Vancouver as an assistant director of player development, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Higgins -- who hasn't played since the 2015-16 season -- saw action in 711 games for Montreal, New York, Calgary, Florida, and Vancouver over the course of his 12-year NHL career. Along the way, the winger notched 165 goals and 168 assists, including 10 short-handed markers.

Chris Higgins: Released from PTO on Monday
Higgins was released from his tryout agreement with the Flames on Monday.
The 33-year-old winger put up a negative 14 plus-minus in 33 games with Vancouver last year, and only scored four points. He is past his prime, but another team could pick him up to add some organizational depth.

Flames' Chris Higgins: Signs professional tryout agreement with Flames
Higgins will join Calgary on a professional tryout agreement, as announced Tuesday.
Higgins had a disappointing 2015-16 campaign that included four points in 33 contests, which led the Canucks to buy him out of his contract and cause him to be a free agent. Given those types of numbers, it should come as no surprise the Flames weren't willing to sign the 33-year-old outright. Still, Higgins does have a shot at making the Opening Night roster when you consider the lack of quality depth on the wings for Calgary, but fantasy owners should probably look elsewhere for discounted value this upcoming season.

Chris Higgins: Clears waivers, eligible for buyout
Higgins cleared waivers Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
The Canucks waived Higgins for the purpose of buying out his contract. His offensive production has steadily declined over the years, and he was limited to 33 games last season with various injuries getting in the way. Higgins wears that leadership hat just as well off the ice as he does on it, and it doesn't bode well for the 12-year veteran that he went unclaimed after getting placed on unconditional waivers.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Will be bought out by Vancouver
Higgins has been waived by the Canucks in order to buy him out of his contract, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Higgins saw his role drastically decrease over the course of the 2015-16 campaign, so it comes as little surprise that the organization has decided to move in a different direction. By buying out the 33-year-old, Vancouver will save an estimated $833,333 in cap space for next season. It remains unclear if the 33-year-old will find a landing spot, but he could be a depth addition for a team in need of veteran leadership, although fantasy owners still holding on to him should consider waiving him as well.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Buyout candidate with free agency looming
Higgins is likely to get bought out by the Canucks, Matthew Sekeres of TSN 1040 reports.
Higgins has one year remaining on his four-year, $10 million contract. If the Canucks execute a buyout on the 33-year-old, it will only cost $833,333 against the cap in each of the next two seasons. After landing on waivers last January, Higgins ended up clearing and stayed in the Canucks organization. Unfortunately, he is often injured. In 2015-16, Higgins was limited to 33 games with his numbers -- three goals, one assist and a minus-14 rating -- rendering him useless in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Out for finale Saturday
Higgins (lower body) is not in the lineup Saturday night against the visiting Oilers.
This news likely won't cause fantasy owners to blink. Higgins finishes with just four points in 33 games of an injury-plauged campaign. When he was able to take the ice, the 32-year-old was a liability defensively, as evidenced by a minus-14 rating.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Out again Wednesday

Higgins already missed out on Monday's 3-2 victory over the Kings, and it's unclear when (or if) he will return with only two games remaining after Wednesday.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Unable to play Monday
Higgins (lower body) will not play in Monday's game against the Kings.
Higgins initially suffered his lower-body injury Friday against the Ducks and there's been no update to his status from the team. In the absence of Higgins, Derek Dorsett (upper body) will make his return to the ice and take over on the wing.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Exits with lower-body injury
Higgins suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's game against the Ducks and will not return.
It's not clear exactly how Higgins was injured, but he will not be able to return to Friday's contest for the third period. The Canucks should provide further information on his status in the near future.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Scores first goal since November in loss
Higgins tallied a short-handed goal on three shots in 13:42 of ice time during Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Sharks.
Higgins scored his first goal since Nov. 8, a span of 27 games played. Since that last goal, he's been bounced back and forth from AHL Utica, and thus hasn't been able to gather much traction this season. Despite playing in 77 games last season, the 32-year-old has only played 30 times this season, with just four points and a -14 rating in those 30 games.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Called up to Vancouver
Higgins was recalled back to the NHL on Saturday.
Higgins played in 22 games in the AHL after being waived by the Canucks in mid-January where he registered nine goals and four helpers. The veteran was averaging 14:03 in ice time per night prior to his reassignment and is likely to see similar numbers in his return to the majors.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Heading to AHL Utica
Higgins is on his way to AHL Utica after clearing waivers Wednesday, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
The organization has already expressed their intent to trade Higgins in an effort to create opportunities for young players, so it appears that they will continue to do so with Higgins in the minors. It's fairly surprising that Higgins decided to report to Utica, as there was speculation that Higgins would seek to have his contract terminated if the Canucks couldn't find a trade partner. If Higgins is to find a new landing spot, he could still provide some fantasy value.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Will be placed on waivers Tuesday
Higgins will be placed on waivers Tuesday, John Shannon of Sportsnet reports.
Higgins recently fell out of favor with coach Willie Desjardins to the point where he's no longer with the team. It was originally thought that Higgins would be trade bait, but apparently he's destined for AHL Utica unless a team claims him off waivers shortly after Tuesday.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: No longer with team
Higgins is no longer with the Canucks, and won't play as the team explores options trading him, Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province reports.
Higgins will not play to avoid an injury that could potentially compromise a trade elsewhere. The Canucks are looking to get some younger bodies consistent playing time, making the veteran winger an expendable asset. As a result, he will now await a trade elsewhere, though it's unclear whether he will end up in the NHL or the AHL.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: Returning Monday
Higgins (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Monday against Los Angeles.
The American forward has missed multiple stretches of the season with undisclosed injuries, and it has really stifled his production. Through 21 games, Higgins has scored just two goals and one assist after scoring 36 points last season. Higgins should feature on one of the Canucks' top-three lines.

Canucks' Chris Higgins: On track to play Monday
Higgins (undisclosed) is on track to return to action Monday against the Kings, Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Higgins was able to skate with his teammates over the weekend, and he is set to return to action Monday after spending a week on injured reserve. Higgins is having a rough month of December with just one point and a minus-nine rating in eight games.
