Vanek (abdomen) isn't in the projected lineup for the season finale versus the Sabres on Saturday, Dave Hogg of NHL.com reports.
Vanek was arguably the most impressive foward for the Red Wings in the first half of the 2016-17 campaign, but the team dynamic naturally changed over the duration of his three subsequent career stops between Florida, Vancouver and Columbus. His reunion tour with the Wings included 16 goals and 20 assists, but he worked against a minus-12 rating and did little to earn the trust of fantasy owners outside of a few hot streaks.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Slated to sit Thursday
Vanek (abdomen) is projected to sit out again Thursday against the Penguins.
Considering Vanek's status is iffy, at best, for the remainder of the campaign, it shouldn't come as a shock that he will skip another contest. With only one game remaining on the schedule after Thursday, it's looking highly likely he will finish 2018-19 with 36 points in 64 games. He would enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Out Tuesday, season status in doubt
Vanek (abdomen) will not return to action Tuesday and is a question mark the rest of the way, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports.
Vanek's issue is one of pain tolerance, making it unclear exactly whether or not he will be able to retake the ice. If he can't, the veteran blueliner will end his 2018-19 campaign with 36 points (16 goals and 20 assists) over 64 games. On just a one-year contract, there's no guarantee he will be back in Detroit next season.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Effectively ruled out Sunday
Vanek (abdomen) is "assumed out" when the Red Wings play the Bruins on Sunday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The Wings have won six of the past 10 games to prove that they're not buying into the 'lose for (Jack) Hughes' mantra -- referring to the 17-year-old American prospect who is projected to be the No. 1 selection in the 2019 draft. Still, Vanek won't be rushed back with the team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, and perhaps the soonest he'll return is Tuesday's home game against the Penguins.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Will miss more time
Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said Vanek (abdomen) will miss at least the next couple games, Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News reports.
Detroit only has six games remaining in the 2018-19 season, and Vanek's enigmatic ways probably had him confined to deep leagues in the first place. The Austrian's produced 16 goals and 20 assists through 64 games this season, which represents a 20-point dip compared to his Columbus-Vancouver service-time split in 2017-18.

Vanek (abdomen) will miss Monday's game versus the Sharks, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
This is a bit surprising considering neither Vanek nor the team had anything to say about an injury following Saturday's win in Vegas. Detroit will enjoy two days off after Monday's contest, so Vanek could be back in the lineup Thursday in Buffalo. Failing that, he'll hope to make his return when the Red Wings are back home Friday to host the Devils.

Vanek (hip) is slated to miss Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
A previous report suggested that Vanek would have a chance to suit up for the road game against the 'Yotes, but the veteran must not have shown enough improvement since that news came out Thursday morning. Instead, he'll join Anthony Mantha (illness) in the press box, with the Wings shoring up their lines with AHL call-up Christoffer Ehn.

Vanek (hip) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Coyotes.
It appears that Vanek is trending in the right direction after missing the past two games with his hip-flexor injury. Should he return Saturday, we can see the team going back to its original plan of slotting him in alongside Filip Zadina, whom the Wings nabbed sixth overall in last year's draft.

Vanek is dealing with a hip flexor which will prevent him from playing Tuesday against the Canadiens, and there's a possibility that it turns out to be a long-term issue, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Vanek was expected to welcome Filip Zadina to the third line for the Czech prospect's NHL debut Sunday, but the elder statesman ended up being scratched from the contest due to the injury. Khan further notes that the Wings are currently deliberating on who to call up from AHL Grand Rapids as a replacement for Vanek, who's chipped in 12 goals and 17 assists over 54 games this season.

Vanek (undisclosed) won't suit up for Sunday's game versus the Sharks, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports.
Coach Jeff Blashill said Vanek tweaked something during Saturday's practice, and it's unclear how long this injury will linger. The 35-year-old has 29 points in 54 games with eight coming on the power play. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this summer, so trade rumors will naturally follow a scratch coming within 24 hours of the deadline. However, Vanek has a no-trade clause, so those whispers could be mere speculation.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Earns milestone marker
Vanek, who was playing in his 1,000th career contest, lit the lamp Friday in a 4-3 overtime win against the Predators.
According to the telecast, Vanek became the first Austrian-born player to reach that games-played milestone in the NHL. During the first period, Defenseman Dennis Cholowski let the puck bounce off the end boards and it fell right into the lap of Vanek for his seventh goal and 17th point of the 2018-19 campaign.

Vanek's produced all 15 of his points in 12 of a possible 29 games. The journeyman has been maddeningly inconsistent in his career, and his current third-line assignment with relatively inexperienced forward Jacob De La Rose and Martin Frk doesn't lend much hope that he'll start producing more frequently in the attacking zone.

Red Wings' Thomas Vanek: Activated for Wednesday's contest
Vanek (lower body) has been activated from injured reserve, ahead of Wednesday's home game against the Bruins, according to the NHL's official media site. The veteran winger is also in the projected lineup.
Even though Vanek looks fit to play in the upcoming contest, Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill is expected to station him on the fourth line with Jacob De La Rose and Martin Frk. That trio does have some offensive flair -- plus, Vanek will be on the No. 2 power-play unit -- but it's probably best to wait and see how he performs after an eight-game injury layoff before plugging him back in for fantasy purposes.
