Rene Bourque: Taking talents to Switzerland
Bourque signed a contract with Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League on Tuesday.
At 35 years old, Bourque heads overseas after recording 163 goals and 153 assists in 725 NHL games split between the Blackhawks, Flames, Canadiens, Ducks, Blue Jackets and Avalanche. Djurgardens courted the veteran in the wake of an injury to right winger Daniel Brodin, but the Swiss club is reportedly excited about the leadership that the Alberta native brings to the table.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Earns helper Wednesday
Bourque chipped in an assist in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Capitals.
The veteran now has 18 points in 59 games this season, which is actually his most since 2011-12 with Montreal and Calgary (24 points combined). At 35 years old, it's extremely unlikely that Bourque will ever reach the heights of his back-to-back 27-goal, 50-plus-point seasons with Calgary from 2009-11, but it's encouraging to see a bit of improvement from him, especially on such a dismal Avalanche squad.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Ready to return Saturday
Bourque (head) will return to Colorado's lineup for Saturday's game against the Sabres, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports.
Bourque's return to action will solidify the Avalanche's depth up front, but won't mean much to fantasy owners, as his limited offensive production -- 13 points in 43 games this season -- keeps him from being a practical option in most formats.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Making progress from injury
Bourque is making progress from his head injury and coach Jared Bednar is hopeful that he will return to action soon, but that rules him out for Tuesday night's game against the Kings.
Bourque has now missed 13 of the last 15 games, but finally appears to nearing a clean bill of health. Even so, the veteran winger is averaging just 14:22 of ice time this season, which doesn't allow him to have enough fantasy value even if he wasn't on one of the most anaemic offenses in the league.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Not traveling with team
Bourque (lower body) is not currently traveling with the team but might meet them at some point during the five-game road trip, Terry Frei of The Denver Post reports.
This assessment presumably rules Bourque out for this weekend's games against the Rangers and Islanders, but leaves open the possibility that he could join up with them if he can get healthy. We'll be sure to update his status if that's the case, but his 13 points on the season should keep him off the majority of fantasy rosters as it is.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Injured again
Bourque (lower body) was back in a non-contact jersey at practice Wednesday.
After a brief return to the lineup, Bourque has now missed two games with this ailment, bringing his total to five thus far. The team did not provide an update on the winger's status, but it seems unlikely he will be ready for Thursday's matchup with the Penguins considering he was not cleared for contact. Even when healthy, the veteran has managed a lone helper in his last 17 outings and offers little in terms of fantasy value.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Ready to go Tuesday
Bourque (lower body) will play Tuesday night's road game against the Ducks, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Bourque will return to his place on the third line with Blake Comeau on the other wing and Joe Colborne in the middle. If that doesn't sound very enticing, it shouldn't -- the three have combined for just 19 goals this season on a team that averages a league-worst 2.02 goals per game.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Moves off IR
Bourque (lower body) was activated from injured reserve ahead of Tuesday's road contest against the Ducks, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
The veteran forward's activation from IR strongly suggests that he'll be in the lineup for this next contest, but either way, fantasy owners aren't likely to be sweating out his status. He's accumulated an uninspiring 13 points in 41 games to go along with a minus-13 goal differential.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Placed on IR
Bourque (lower body) was designated for injured reserve -- retroactive to Jan. 19 -- on Tuesday.
Jim O'Brien was called up from AHL San Antonio to take Bourque's spot on the active roster. The veteran will be out through the All-Star break, with his next chance to return coming Jan. 31.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Unlikely to go Wednesday
Bourque (lower body) has been classified as doubtful for Wednesday's home game against the Canucks and is projected to play again after the All-Star break.
Assuming Bourque does not play Wednesday, it will represent his third straight game missed due to injury. The 35-year-old hasn't netted a goal since Dec. 14 and is nothing more than a bottom-six winger on a really bad team, leaving his fantasy value near rock bottom.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Out of lineup Monday
Bourque (lower body) won't play in Monday's game against San Jose.
With only eight points in 49 games, the winger barely moves the needle in most leagues. His next chance to return will be Wednesday against Vancouver.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Ruled out Saturday
Bourque (lower body) will not play in Saturday's road game against the Sharks, The Denver Post reports.
It's safe to assume that Bourque will need to practice before the team would consider plugging him back into the lineup -- he missed Friday's session due to the ailment. Andreas Martinsen is expected to slot in on the fourth line with Bourque ailing, though he's projected to be on the left wing while Joe Colborne goes to the right side. Now, the veteran Bourque will try to get healthy for Monday's home clash with Team Teal.

Avalanche's Rene Bourque: Dealing with lower-body ailment
Bourque missed practice Friday due to a lower-body injury, Terry Frei of The Denver Post reports.
The severity of Bourque's ailment remains unclear, but the veteran winger is considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's matchup with San Jose, suggesting he may be able to gut it out against the Sharks. If Bourque is unable to play in that one, Andreas Martinsen will likely draw into the lineup in his absence.
