  • Clayton Stoner: Moving onto bench

Stoner (undisclosed) will join the Vegas Golden Knights' youth system as coach of their 12AA team, ending his professional career.

Stoner spent the 2017-18 campaign on long-term injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury and hasn't played since. The defenseman spent eight seasons in the NHL with the Wild and Ducks, appearing in 360 games and tallying seven goals, 41 assists and 659 hits along the way.

  • Golden Knights' Clayton Stoner: Lands on injured reserve

Stoner was placed on injured reserve Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury.

Stoner had not been practicing the last few days, but the move to IR still comes as something of a surprise and the stay-at-home defenseman will miss at least the Golden Knights' first two games as a franchise. Regardless, Stoner is not considered much of a fantasy asset, having never exceeded 10 points in any of his eight NHL seasons.

  • Golden Knights' Clayton Stoner: Joins expansion club

Stoner has been selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft,TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

Paying Stoner $3.25 million for this coming season is far from ideal, but the willingness to accept his contract allowed Vegas to net highly regarded defenseman Shea Theodore from the Ducks as well. Stoner played just 14 games for Anaheim the past year due to an abdominal injury. Even if he is healthy this coming year, Stoner is nothing more than a depth defenseman at this point in his career.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Healthy enough to play next series

Stoner (abdomen) is available to play in the Western Conference finals against Nashville, according to GM Bob Murray.

Following the news that Stoner took the ice for warmups prior to Wednesday's Game 7 win against the Oilers, per Elliott Teaford of the Southern California News Group, his availability for the next series seemed to be the next logical step. However, even though the 32-year-old has been cleared to play, it's not guaranteed that he will immediately step back into his normal role, considering that he hasn't seen game action since Nov. 15 and the Ducks may want to ease him back in.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Won't play Game 6

Stoner (abdomen) served as a scratch for Sunday's Game 6 against the Oilers.

There's been no indication given so far that Stoner might be close to a return, so don't expect to see him back until there's a bit more clarity on his status. Shea Theodore will likely continue to see game action with Stoner sidelined.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Scratched yet again Friday

Stoner (abdomen) wasn't listed among the defensive pairings for Game 5 against the Oilers on Friday, per Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register.

The imposing blueliner is no longer showing on injured reserve, but the Ducks aren't about to throw a guy who hasn't played since Nov. 17 into the lineup, especially since Brandon Montour is playing so well -- the rookie has collected three points and a plus-7 rating in these conference semifinals.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Taken off injured reserve

Stoner (abdomen) is no longer listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

While this is certainly an intriguing development for Stoner's potential return, it's worth noting that he has not returned to the ice in any fashion and fellow defenseman Simon Despres (head) was taken off injured reserve in the middle of April and still has not returned to action. Therefore, there's no guarantee that Stoner's return is imminent and he should not be counted for Friday's Game 5 at the moment.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: All but ruled out Friday

Stoner (abdomen) is projected to be scratched from Friday's Game 2 semifinal contest against the Oilers, NHL.com reports.

The brawny defenseman remains the lone Duck on injured reserve, so unless Sami Vatanen (upper body) gets the green light to play, Korbinian Holzer could continue getting some rink-run in these conference semifinals. Still, that's too many variables to worry about when it comes to Stoner. Look elsewhere for a blueliner in playoff pools.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Remains on injured reserve

Stoner (abdomen) has not been activated off injured reserve, per the NHL media site.

Despite reports that Stoner was available for Game 1, he remains on injured reserve for the time being. With Sami Vatanen (upper body) still not 100 percent and Kevin Bieksa (lower body) doubtful for Friday's contest, the Ducks could really use some good news on Stoner. In the event none of the injured defenders are able to give it a go, Korbinian Holzer will likely slot back into the lineup against the Oilers.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Available, but projected scratch

Coach Randy Carlyle indicated Wednesday that Stoner (abdomen) and all other defensemen for the Ducks are healthy and available for the evening's Game 1 against the Oilers, but Stoner is expected to be scratched, NHL.com reports.

Stoner has played in just 14 games for the Ducks this season, but appears to be finally healthy for the club's playoff run. Despite his return, Anaheim isn't expected to utilize his services this early in the postseason. The veteran's next chance at rejoining the lineup would come in Game 2, but it wouldn't be surprising if he remains in the press box.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Remains out of lineup

Stoner is not slated to play Wednesday against the Flames, the Ducks' official site reports.

Last seen in the Anaheim lineup back in mid November, Stoner -- who is bouncing back from an abdominal injury -- remains in question as the team's postseason run continues. In 14 regular-season tilts, the 6-foot-4, 216-pound blueliner logged three points and 28 PIM for the Ducks.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Won't play Saturday

Stoner (abdomen) is out for Saturday's Game 2 against the Flames.

The absence of Stoner won't have any real fantasy impact, or much impact on Anaheim's plans. Stoner only played in 14 games this season, and he only tallied three points. The Ducks are used to not having him in their lineup.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Not in lineup Thursday

Stoner (abdomen) didn't hit the ice for warmups Thursday and won't play in Game 1 against the Flames, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

The blueliner has been practicing with the team, but he remains on injured reserve. It's possible that he comes in at some point during the series, but his fantasy value remains negligible regardless.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Could return against Calgary

Stoner (abdomen) is practicing with the Ducks ahead of Thursday's playoff opener against the Flames, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

Stoner remains on injured reserve for now, per the NHL's official media site, so there's no guarantee he'll suit up for the first game of the playoffs. However, his presence would be great relief for a Ducks blue line that likely just lost Cam Fowler (knee) for the first round. Be on the lookout for updates ahead of Thursday's game.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Questionable for remainder of season

Stoner (abdomen) could return to the lineup in one of the team's three remaining regular-season games, Eric Stephens of The Orange County Register reports.

Despite having last played Nov. 15, Stoner traveled with the team for their recent four-game road trip. A big, stay-at-home defenseman, Stoner doesn't offer much of anything from an offensive standpoint, but does make his way onto the scoresheet in the way of hits and blocked shots. Expect the Ducks to make a further update on Stoner's condition at some point this week.

  • Ducks' Clayton Stoner: Not among warmup pairings

Stoner (abdomen) was not on the ice for pregame warmups Saturday against Edmonton, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

Stoner was called up by the Ducks on Saturday after a conditioning stint in San Diego and was expected to get on the ice either Saturday or Sunday. Perhaps he couldn't make it to Edmonton from from San Diego in time for the game, so Sunday in Calgary may be his return game.
