A day after becoming the most decorated U.S female track athlete in Olympics history, Allyson Felix has become the most decorated American on the track -- period. Felix surpassed fellow American Carl Lewis with her 11th career medal by taking gold in Friday's women's 4x400m final, her seventh career Olympic gold medal.

The U.S. finished first in the women's 4x400m relay final with a season-best time of 3:16.85, besting silver-medalist Poland (3:20.53) and bronze-medalist Jamaica (3:21.24). Poland's time was a national record.

Team USA brought a stacked lineup of Sydney McLaughlin, Felix, Dalilah Muhammad and Athing Mu to the women's 4x400 relay final. The team came into the event with a combined four medals in the Tokyo Games: McLaughlin and Muhammad won gold and silver, respectively, in the women's 400m hurdles; Felix took home bronze in the women's 400m; and Mu won gold in the 800m.Β

The U.S. has now medaled in the women's 4x400m final a world-leading 12 times (eight gold, four silver). Felix has been a part of four of those gold-medal wins, as she's won the event in every Olympics since 2008. Β

Team USA also claimed gold in the men's 4x400m relay final. Michael Cherry, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Rae Benjamin led the Americans to a finish of 2:55.70, above silver-medalist Netherlands (2:57.18) and bronze-medalist Botswana (2:57.27). The U.S. has now won consecutive golds in this event, as it won with a time of 2:57.30 in the 2016 Rio Games.Β

In Friday's women's 400m final, Felix won the bronze medal -- her 10th Olympic medal -- with a season-best time of 49.46. That time was just below the gold medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo (48.36) of the Bahamas and silver medalist Marileidy Paulino (49.20) of the Domincan Republic. The medal Felix earned in that event gave her the lead over Jamaica's Merlene Ottey for the most by any female track and field athlete in Olympic history.Β

In Felix's fifth and final Olympics, she went out in storybook fashion.Β
