U.S. men's national team stars Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah, teammates at Juventus, couldn't have hoped for a better start to the Derby d'Italia against Inter at the San Siro as the two were both crucial for the two goals scored by Juve in the first half of a crazy match that ended 4-4. While McKennie provided the assist to Dusan Vlahovic's equalizer to make it 1-1, Weah scored his second-ever goal with the Bianconeri to give Juve a 2-1 lead in a game that had it all.

After a strong start by Inter, where the Nerazzurri managed to score the opener thanks to a penalty by former Napoli man Piotr Zielinski, Juventus were able to score twice and make a quick comeback with the goals of Vlahovic, who scored his first-ever goal in Milan thanks to a great play of McKennie, who provided his first Serie A assist of the 2024-25 season and got another later on.

A few minutes later, Juventus were able to score another one after a nice individual play by former Porto winger Francisco Conceicao, which led to the second Serie A goal of the season of Weah.

Despite the comeback, the first half ended 3-2 for the home side, after the goals scored by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and another penalty by Piotr Zielinski, who replaced the injured Hakan Calhanoglu in the starting lineup against Juventus on Sunday. In the second half, Inter improved and had a much better impact that led to the 4-2 lead with a goal from Dutch winger Denzel Dumfries. It seemed over as the side coached by Simone Inzaghi went close to scoring their fifth, but then the Bianconeri made another extraordinary comeback with a brace scored by young Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz, one of which came from a ball from McKennie.

A disappointing score for the home team that conceded four goals and underlined once again the defensive issues of this first part of the year, while Motta's side can be much more positive, after gaining one point on such a difficult pitch. The 4-4 draw, one of the most exciting and eventful games of the year, showed the defensive problems of both sides and the potential for fireworks when they meet, while giving league leaders Napoli a little breathing room as we approach November.
