Day 2 of action at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada saw a pair of experienced sides make quick work of overmatched and inexperienced teams in Ottawa as Group B got underway.
Norway won 4-0 in the first of the two games at Landsdowne Stadium against a Thailand team making its Women's World Cup debut. Then, Germany, ranked No. 1 in the world, reached double figures(!), scoring a 10-0 win against Ivory Coast, ranked No. 67. The drubbing included the fastest hat-trick in Women's World Cup history by Celia Sasic and also a separate hat-trick by Anja Mittag.
The rankings disparity between Germany and Ivory Coast was the biggest in the history of the tournament. They were up 5-0 by half-time.
Germany fell just one goal shy of tying the record for most goals in a game, a mark they set themselves when they won 11-0 against Argentina in 2007. It was also the second time Germany has scored two hat-tricks in one game.
Norway vs. Thailand
Free kick opens scoring for Norway: Trine Ronning opened the scoring in the 15th minute with the first free-kick goal of the tournament.

Though Thailand keeper Waraporn Boonsing (and the wall) should have done better:
Collective Team Goal of the Day: Norway put together a gem of a collective goal in the 29th minute to make it 2-0 with striker Isabell Herlovsen doing the honors after some nice dribbling of her own in the box.
Saving grace for Thailand: But it wasn't all bad for the debutants, who were able to take something away from the game when Boonsing stopped a penalty by Maren Mjelde in the 75th minute with the score already 4-0 to Norway.
Germany vs. Ivory Coast
Fastest hat-trick in Women's World Cup history: Sacic scored goals in the third, 14th and 31st minutes to give her the record, which was previously held by Michelle Akers and Carin Jennings of the United States (33 minutes) during the first Women's World Cup in 1991.
Mittag also joined this list of women who have scored the most goals in a single game:

Highest-scoring team in Women's World Cup History: The 10-0 win gave Germany 101 overall goals in tournament history, surpassing the United States, who have scored 98.
