Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has been a force on the boards in her first season, and she broke two major records in that category on Sunday during her team's 79-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Reese finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds, and set the new all-time single-season total rebound and offensive rebound marks.
In the second quarter, Reese pulled down a miss by Myisha Hines-Allen to record her 405th rebound of the season, which moved her past Sylvia Fowles for the most rebounds in a season.

Then, near the end of the third quarter, Reese battled for space under the basket and grabbed a miss by her frontcourt partner, Kamilla Cardoso, to record her 163rd offensive rebound of the season. With that board, she moved ahead of Yolanda Griffith for the most in a season.

After starring for LSU and leading the Tigers to a national championship in 2023, Reese fell to No. 7 in the 2024 WNBA Draft largely due to concerns about how her offensive game would translate. Sure enough, she has had trouble finishing around the basket and is shooting 38.5% for the season.
There were no such worries about her ability to do all of the little things that contribute to winning, though, especially rebounding. Just a few months into her professional career, it's clear Reese has what it takes to be an all-timer on the boards. Her 13.1 per game would be the highest single-season average ever.
In addition to her new records, she recently became the first player to register three consecutive games with at least 20 rebounds. And against the Indiana Fever on Friday, she pulled down 11 rebounds to surpass Tina Charles for the most double-doubles as a rookie; she now has 24 of them.
