In the first NCAA Women's Basketball AP poll of the 2021-22 season this was the top six:

  1. South Carolina
  2. UConn
  3. Stanford
  4. Maryland
  5. NC State
  6. Louisville

As such, it should be no surprise that the top two then are the final two standing at the end of the NCAA Tournament.

South Carolina won the tournament in 2017 and fell just inches short of beating Stanford in a Final Four matchup last season, and after knocking off Louisville, the Gamecocks are looking for their first national title since 2017

UConn is in what no other basketball program in the country -- men's or women's -- would call a drought. The Huskies haven't won it all since 2016 but extended their record streak of Final Fours to 14 straight. They're back in the championship game for the first time since 2016. Geno Auriemma is now 12-10 in 22 Final Four matchups, and UConn is 11-0 in national championship games under him.

What this title game has in chalk, it also carries in intrigue. Experience. Star power. Legendary coaches. Future WNBA All-Stars. All that and more will be on display in Minneapolis when a champion is crowned on Sunday, April 3.

All of the 2022 Women's NCAA Tournament games will air on the ESPN family of networks, and you can stream every game on fuboTV (try for free).
