2025 WWE Survivor Series: WarGames results, review, winners, grades: Mystery man aids Bron Breakker to win
Plus, a new champion was crowned after a surprise return
Survivor Series: WarGames went down on Saturday from Petco Park in San Diego. While the event didn't shake the foundations of WWE, it did leave fans scratching their heads in ways both positive and negative.
In the women's WarGames match, AJ Lee and her team were victorious after they managed to isolate Becky Lynch, a situation where Lee was able to force Lynch to tap out. The result continued a rough month for Lynch that has seen, among other things, her losing the women's intercontinental championship, in part due to Lee's presence.
The men's WarGames match capped off the night. The chaotic match came to an end when a masked man climbed into the ring and hit a superkick and Seth Rollins-style stomp on CM Punk, ultimately leaving Punk at the mercy of Bron Breakker, who hit a spear to score the win for his team. Fans will now wait to see who the masked man was, as Rollins recently underwent shoulder surgery and the masked man's body type did not match Rollins'.
One title also changed hands on Saturday, with Liv Morgan making a surprise return during Dominik Mysterio's bid to regain the intercontinental championship from John Cena. After appearing to have turned on Mysterio, Morgan instead delivered a low blow to Cena to set up Mysterio to regain the championship.
CBS Sports was with you for all the action from Petco Park in San Diego.
AJ Lee forces Becky Lynch to tap out to win WarGames
Things started off with Charlotte Flair and Asuka started the action (the match does not technically start until all 10 competitors are in the cage). WWE did away with holding the awaiting competitors in shark cages, with them instead making standard entrances at regular intervals. They were followed, in order, by Iyo Sky Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Kairi Sane, AJ Lee, Nia Jax, Rhea Ripley and Lash Legend.
With Legend in the match, she went on a brief run before coming face-to-face with Ripley. Legend hit a powerbomb and a pump kick for the first near fall of the match. Things continued to speed up with big moments, including a Sky moonsault for a near fall before she was launched into her teammates by Jax and Legend. Sane and Asuka hit a Kabuki Special with Sane again having the chain wrapped around her arm, but Ripley was able to break up the pin. Flair saved Ripley from a misting by Asuka, resulting in the mist going into Legend's eyes.
Sky went to the top of the cage, where she was handed a trash can. Sky then hit a dive onto every member of the other team except Lynch, who then tried to climb out of the cage. Instead, Lynch was caught, hit with a Riptide by Ripley and then put in the Black Widow by Lee, which forced Lynch to tap out. Not a great WarGames match, overall, with some timing issues and the pre-match stretch feeling like a slog. As an old school guy, I also deeply resent removing the shark cages in favor of doing "entrances." It wasn't terrible, however, just forgettable. Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair & AJ Lee def. Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Asuka, Kairi Sane & Becky Lynch -- Grade: B-
Liv Morgan returns, helps Dominik Mysterio win intercontinental championship from John Cena
Mysterio had Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez at ringside, which let him get a little early advantage after Cena tried to work a bit of chain wrestling. Mysterio worked an eye poke, drawing a warning from the referee that allowed Rodriguez to deliver a cheap shot to Cena. Mysterio kept the advantage until Cena fired back with a series of right hands, forcing Mysterio to bail from the ring and hide behind Perez and Rodriguez. Mysterio used his female companions to deliver a cheap shot to Cena and grab the advantage once again.
Mysterio went for a huricanrana off the ringside barricade, but the move went wrong, with Mysterio landing awkwardly. As medics checked on Mysterio, Rodriguez and Perez attacked Cena. They then left Cena draped over the middle rope, when Mysterio popped up, ran to the ring, and hit a 619 and a frog splash. The referee refused to count, instead ejecting Perez and Rodriguez from ringside. Cena hit a five-knuckle shuffle after the confusion and then locked in the STFU, but Mysterio got to the ropes to break the hold. Mysterio then nearly won the match by hitting another 619 and frog splash, but turned around into an Attitude Adjustment for a two-count. Mysterio ducked a Cena shoulder block, leading Cena to hit the referee instead. Cena locked Mysterio in the STFU again but Finn Balor and JD McDonagh ran in to attack Cena with the referee down.
Cena fought back and hit a double Attitude Adjustment on Balor and McDonagh. Cena ducked an attempt from Mysterio to use the intercontinental title belt for a cheap shot and hit another Attitude Adjustment. As Cena called for another referee, Liv Morgan's music hit as she made her return. Morgan then slapped Mysterio before hugging Cena. Morgan then turned and hit Cena with a low blow, hit Cena with the title belt and Mysterio hit a frog splash for the victory. The match was overbooked to an unnecessary degree, but what can you expect? At least the right man won. Dominik Mysterio def. John Cena via pinfall to win the intercontinental championship -- Grade: B-
Stephanie Vaquer takes out Nikki Bella to retain women's world championship
Bella blindsided Vaquer immediately after the opening bell. Vaquer quickly came back with a dropkick and a leg drop. Bella ducked out of the ring as Vaquer took chase. Vaquer tossed Bella into the commentary desk. Bella was able to turn the tables and land a suplex for a one-count. Bella tried to slow things down with a few holds and some brawling. Bella set Vaquer on the top turnbuckle, which allowed Vaquer to lock in an armbar over the top rope, but Bella again cut off the momentum with a quick spinebuster back in the ring.
Vaquer fired up with a good run of offense, including a few near falls, as she was able to turn up the pace of the match. Vaquer hit a dragon screw leg whip on Bella in the corner before an SVB for a two-count. Vaquer hit a meteora into the corner, but Bella cut her off as she went to the top rope. Bella was able to hit a Rack Attack 2.0, but Vaquer used the rope to break the pin. The action spilled outside the ring, where Vaquer executed a Devil's Kiss on the commentary desk. Vaquer threw Bella back in the ring before hitting Devil's Kiss again. Vaquer then finished things off with a corkscrew splash. I don't know what the goal was with this match, but it certainly felt like a waste of Vaquer's time. Bella is well past her best days, and her best days weren't at the level of talent in a modern locker room. Again, not a bad match, but not one worth anyone's time. Stephanie Vaquer def. Nikki Bella to retain the women's world championship -- Grade: C+
Mystery man helps Bron Breakker pin CM Punk to win WarGames
CM Punk and Bron Breakker were the first men in the cage for their respective teams. Breakker largely had the upper hand early, and as Punk started to turn the tables, Drew McIntyre made his way to the cage. Shortly after, McIntyre hit Punk with a Claymore before digging at Punk's eyeballs. Cody Rhodes was the next man in, finally breaking up an extended attack on Punk. McIntyre tried to keep Rhodes from entering the cage, so Rhodes climbed over the top and dove onto McIntyre before hitting a Cody Cutter on Breakker. Punk and Rhodes were able to control the action, including hitting a Doomsday Device on Breakker.
Logan Paul was the next man in, with the numbers advantage again allowing his team to take control of things before he and Rhodes ascended the cage to exchange punches before Breakker slammed a chair into Rhodes' knee. Jimmy Uso was in next, and he brought a table into the ring. It didn't take long before Jimmy was overwhelmed by his opponents, and without the table coming into play. Things continued to get worse for Punk's team as Bronson Reed was the next man to enter the cage.
Reed immediately hit a Tsunami on Punk, and one on Jimmy, and one on Rhodes. Jey Uso was the man who came out to even things up for the team, leading to The Usos hitting a 1-D on Paul. As Jey's music hit again and he celebrated, Brock Lesnar's music hit as he completed his team's entrants into the match.
Lesnar immediately tore through the other team, throwing clotheslines and suplexes at will. Lesnar hit F-5s on Punk, Rhodes and Jey. Lesnar then continued his attack by using a steel chair on any opponent within reach before Roman Reigns' music hit.
Lesnar left the cage as Reigns' music hit, walking to the entrance to meet Reigns. Reigns hit Lesnar with three Superman punches before Lesnar caught the fourth and put Reigns through a commentary desk with an F-5. Lesnar tossed Reigns into the cage and the ring steps before forcing him into the cage, at which point the match officially began. After the bell sounded, Lesnar hit Reigns with an F-5 before Rhodes broke the count. Punk hit Lesnar with a Go To Sleep and Rhodes followed up with a Cross Rhodes, but Paul hit a frog splash to break the pin before collecting brass knuckles from Paul Heyman.
Paul hit Rhodes and Jimmy Uso with the knux before lining up to hit Reigns. Instead, Reigns hit a spear and took the knux himself. Reigns hit Reed and McIntyre with the loaded Superman punch. Reigns followed up with a spear on Breakker and then speared Lesnar through a table in the corner as Lesnar had Jey up for an F-5. Breakker then took over for his team, delivering spears until missing one on Punk and allowing Punk to hit a Go To Sleep on Paul. At that point, a masked individual entered the ring before spearing Punk and hitting a Seth Rollins-style stomp on Punk before running from the cage. This allowed Breakker to hit a spear on Punk to score the win. The interference at the end was entirely unnecessary and kind of ruins the idea of WarGames, but WWE rarely cares about the purity of match types. This was a fun match until a terrible finish, which just caps off a fairly disappointing night of wrestling. Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre & Brock Lesnar def. CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso & Roman Reigns -- Grade: B
