WrestleMania 42 has reached its halftime. Night 1 of the two-night spectacle is in the books and three new champions have been crowned along with one champion who retained.

Cody Rhodes held on to the WWE title on Saturday night in the main event from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, but it didn't come without a price. Rhodes battled tooth and nail with his former mentor Randy Orton, who entered with Pat McAfee in his corner. By night's end, Orton delivered an RKO to McAfee before Rhodes hit Orton with a Cross Rhodes to retain. After the match, Orton lost it and attacked Rhodes, hitting the champion with his patented punt to the head and standing tall as the show went off the air.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Liv Morgan took the women's world title from Stephanie Vaquer with a little help from her Judgement Day cohorts Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. A new women's tag team champion was crowned as well as Brie Bella and Paige, returning to WWE for the first time in four years, outlasted three other teams. And Becky Lynch finally overcame AJ Lee, thanks to her dirty tactics, to claim the women's intercontinental title.

Just six matches remain in this year's WrestleMania festivities. Some of them are among the most anticipated of the weekend. That includes the opener on Sunday when Oba Femi answers the challenge of Brock Lesnar for an epic clash. Plus, a Judgement Day grudge match is set with Finn Balor taking on Dominik Mysterio after Balor was ex-communicated from the group.

Four title matches also take place on Sunday. Penta must defend his intercontinental title in a six-pack ladder match with the likes of Je'Von Evans, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Rusev and Rey Mysterio all gunning for the belt hung above the ring. Plus, WWE women's champion Jade Cargill will defend her crown against former champ Rhea Ripley in a grudge match after Cargill enlisted Michin and B-Fab as cohorts to slow down Ripley. And United States champion Sami Zayn will look to defend his title against Trick Williams, who will have Lil' Yachty in his corner.

Then in the main event, world heavyweight champion CM Punk takes on Roman Reigns, the man with longest championship reign in over 30 years. Reigns earned his spot by winning the Royal Rumble in January. He then chose to face Punk instead of Rhodes, citing their long history of hatred toward the other. Recently, it stems back to Punk being called on to help Reigns and The Usos at Survivor Series in 2024 by longtime advisor Paul Heyman. Punk then used his favor to get Heyman in his corner at last year's WrestleMania when he faced Reigns and Seth Rollins.

Now, the hatred has continued with Punk invoking Reigns' deceased father in the feud and saying he would bury Reigns next to him. This hostility brought out the Usos to defend the family name, which set off a chain reaction of attacks for weeks. In the final episode of Raw before WrestleMania, the two apologized for what was said, but did say the hatred still burned.
