Top Blues News

  • Blues' Pius Suter: Scores in return

Suter scored a goal and took five shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.

Suter found the back of the net in his return to action following a two-game absence due to a lower-body injury. However, he hasn't been a reliable scoring weapon for St. Louis this season. He only has seven goals, and 13 total points, through 26 games.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Beaten five times Thursday

Binnington stopped 22 of 27 shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.

Binnington continues to play poorly, and this was his fourth straight game in which he posted a save percentage below the .900 mark. Over that four-game stretch, Binnington has gone 1-2-1 with a 4.05 GAA while allowing 13 goals on 89 shots against him.

  • Blues' Robert Thomas: Managing injury

Thomas (undisclosed) was limited in the third period of Thursday's game versus the Bruins, Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Thomas was managing an injury rather than getting benched in what ended up being a 5-2 loss for the Blues. While he was able to stay on the bench, fantasy managers will want to double-check on the center's status for Saturday's game versus the Senators.

  • Blues' Alexei Toropchenko: Moves to IR

Toropchenko (leg) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Toropchenko is considered week-to-week after sustaining scalding burns to his legs in an accident at home. The 26-year-old's move to IR frees up a roster spot for the Blues should they need to call up reinforcements.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Between pipes Thursday

Binnington will patrol the visiting crease in Boston on Thursday, Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Binnington was pulled in his last start after giving up two goals on his first five shots. The netminder is 6-6-5 with a 3.20 GAA and an .878 save percentage across 18 appearances this season. The Bruins are generating 3.06 goals per game, 14th in the NHL.

  • Blues' Matt Luff: Up from minors

Luff was summoned from AHL Springfield on Wednesday.

Luff has seven goals, 14 points and 16 PIM in 17 outings with Springfield this season. The 28-year-old's promotion gives St. Louis a 13th healthy forward on the active roster after Nathan Walker (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

  • Blues' Jordan Kyrou: Nets lone goal in loss

Kyrou scored a goal on three shots and added three hits in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks.

Kyrou has scored twice in the last three games, but the Blues have just six total goals in that span. Still, it's a positive for the 27-year-old to show a little life on offense after a few inconsistent stretches earlier in the campaign. He's at eight goals, 15 points, 66 shots on net and a minus-10 rating through 26 appearances so far, and he'll likely stay in a top-six role as long as he's scoring.

  • Blues' Joel Hofer: Good effort in relief outing

Hofer stopped 19 of 20 shots in relief of Jordan Binnington in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks.

Hofer entered the game midway through the first period after Binnington was pulled following the Ducks' second goal. Hofer did well to keep things close, but the Blues' offense couldn't give him any support. Hofer was able to avoid the loss, as Binnington was responsible for the decisive goal. For the season, Hofer is 3-5-2 with a 3.29 GAA and an .882 save percentage over 13 appearances. Inconsistency from both goalies has prevented either from breaking away with the starting job, though Binnington has had an edge in starts. The Blues begin a three-game road trip in Boston on Thursday, and a back-to-back over the weekend in Ottawa on Saturday and Montreal on Sunday should allow both goalies to get playing time soon.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Quick hook in loss

Binnington was pulled from Monday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks after allowing two goals on five shots.

Head coach Jim Montgomery clearly wanted to send a message to his team by pulling Binnington early. It didn't work, as the Blues failed to get another goal, leaving Binnington with the loss despite his early exit. This was his first regulation loss since Nov. 5 versus the Capitals. On the year, Binnington is 6-6-5 with a 3.20 GAA and an .878 save percentage through 18 appearances. He's maintained a slight edge over Joel Hofer for starts, but it's not yet clear who will get the nod in Boston on Thursday for the start of a three-game road trip.

  • Blues' Pius Suter: Slated to play Thursday

Suter (lower body) is expected to play against the Rangers on Thursday, per Lou Korac of NHL.com.

Suter will probably occupy a bottom-six role after missing the last two games. He has accounted for six goals, 12 points, 39 shots on net and 17 hits across 25 appearances this season.

  • Blues' Nathan Walker: Lands on injured reserve

Walker was designated for injured reserve after suffering an upper-body injury that will sideline him for at least eight weeks.

Given Walker's timeline and the fact that he will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, this likely points to him being out of action through the Olympic break in February. In his last seven outings, the 31-year-old center notched one goal, three assists and five shots while averaging 12:17 of ice time. With Walker on the shelf, the Blues may have to utilize Aleksanteri Kaskimaki even if Pius Suter (lower body) is cleared to play.

  • Blues' Akil Thomas: Flipped in trade

Thomas was acquired by the Blues from the Kings on Tuesday in exchange for Nikita Alexandrov.

Neither center seemed to be close to earning a call-up to their respective NHL squads, so this trade could benefit both Thomas and Alexandrov with fresh starts in new organizations. Both players will be free agents at the end of the 2025-26 campaign and have been putting up decent numbers in the minors -- four goals and nine helpers in 19 games with AHL Ontario for Thomas. Expect the 25-year-old Thomas to report to AHL Springfield in the coming days.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Between pipes Monday

Binnington will tend the twine at home versus the Ducks on Monday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Binnington is undefeated in regulation over his last six outings, going 3-0-3 with a 2.75 GAA and .909 save percentage. It seems the 32-year-old netminder has done enough to reclaim the bulk of the workload, at least temporarily, after having shared the crease with Joel Hofer for much of November.

  • Blues' Pius Suter: Won't play Monday

Suter (lower body) will be sidelined versus the Ducks on Monday, Matthew DeFranks of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Suter's continued absence due to his lower-body injury could force the Blues to deploy seven defensemen against Anaheim if Aleksanteri Kaskimaki doesn't arrive in St. Louis on time. In 25 games this year, the 29-year-old Suter has produced six goals and six assists, putting him just off pace to reach the 40-point threshold this year.

  • Blues' Aleksanteri Kaskimaki: Called up by St. Louis

Kaskimaki was recalled from AHL Springfield on Monday.

Kaskimaki hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he could have a chance to suit up for the Blues in the near future since Jimmy Snuggerud (wrist) and Alexei Toropchenko (leg) are slated to miss time. Whether Kaskimaki suits up Monday against Anaheim will likely depend on whether Pius Suter (lower body), who missed Saturday's game against the Mammoth, is cleared to play. Over 16 appearances with the Thunderbirds to begin the year, Kaskimaki has recorded four goals, three assists and a minus-5 rating.

  • Blues' Alexei Toropchenko: Considered week-to-week

The Blues announced Monday that Toropchenko is considered week-to-week after sustaining scalding burns to his legs in a home accident.

Toropchenko missed several weeks earlier this season due to an injury, and he's facing another multi-game absence following his accident in his home. Over 17 appearances this year, Toropchenko has logged a goal, an assist, 38 hits, 15 PIM and 13 blocked shots while averaging 11:30 of ice time. Aleksanteri Kaskimaki was called up by the Blues on Monday to provide additional depth while Toropchenko and Jimmy Snuggerud (wrist) are sidelined.

  • Blues' Jimmy Snuggerud: Set for wrist surgery

Snuggerud will undergo surgery for a left wrist injury that will sideline him for at least six weeks. Per the Blues' announcement, Snuggerud has also been placed on injured reserve.

Snuggerud still logged 15:02 of ice time against the Mammoth on Saturday, including 2:20 on the power play, which didn't immediately indicate he was going to be out long term. The 21-year-old winger is stuck in an eight-game goal drought as well as going seven contests without a point. He'll now have to wait until mid-January for his next opportunity to break out of his slump. In a corresponding move, Aleksanteri Kaskimaki was recalled from the minors.
