RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Freshman De'Monte Buckingham scored a season-high 22 points and Richmond opened a 15-point second-half lead and then held on to beat Fordham 80-72 on Wednesday night.
Buckingham hit four 3-pointers for the Spiders (8-6, 2-0 Atlantic 10). ShawnDre' Jones and Khwan Fore added 14 points each for Richmond and Julius Johnson had 13. The Spiders shot better than 50 percent (29 of 54, 53.7 percent) from the field for the second game in a row after not having done it at all in their first 12 games.
Christian Sengfelder had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rams (6-9, 0-2), who lost for the eighth time in nine games. The Rams scored eight straight to close within 71-67 with three minutes to play, but T.J. Cline and Fore each hit a pair of free throws to push the Spiders' lead back to 75-67.
Joseph Chartouny added 16 points for Fordham, but had only two in the second half.
