AKRON, Ohio (AP) Isaiah Johnson scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and hit a jumper at the buzzer to lift Akron over Ball State 65-63 on Tuesday night.
With 2.3 seconds left, Ball State turned it over by throwing an inbounds pass the length of the court that went untouched and out of bounds. The Zips took possession under their basket, and Johnson's catch-and-shoot jumper along the baseline swished at the buzzer.
Officials added 0.2 seconds to the clock, but the Cardinals' desperation shot bounced off the rim.
Jimond Ivey added 10 points for the Zips (20-4, 10-1 Mid-American), who won their 29th straight at home after seeing their 12-game win streak overall end at Ohio 85-70 on Saturday.
Emmanuel Olojakpoke's dunk put Akron up 62-56 with 3:39 left, but Ball State closed to 62-61 on Tahjai Teague's dunk with 2:02 to go. Franko House's layup gave the Cardinals a 63-62 lead, but Johnson made 1 of 2 from the line.
House scored 18 points and Weber added 16 for the Cardinals (15-9, 6-5).
