Malik Newman: Ruled out for season
Newman is dealing with an undisclosed injury that will force him to miss the remainder of the season, Evan Dammarell of SBNation.com reports.
Newman played a prominent role for the Charge during the 2021-22 campaign, and he averaged 19.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 31.4 minutes per game. The nature of his injury isn't yet clear, but he'll be unable to return this season.

Newman was one rebound short of logging his first G League double-double this year. However, the backcourt player will receive limited chances to record many points and rebounds if he remains a backup. The Charge team prefers utilizing Justin James as its primary shooting guard.

Despite no longer being a part of the Cleveland Cavaliers roster, Newman remains a valuable contributor to their G League team. He was its primary ball distributor and secondary scorer Tuesday. Concerning the latter role, Justin James or Tre Scott are capable scorers who could significantly affect Newman's future G League scoring output.

The Cavaliers didn't re-sign Newman after his 10-day contract expired Saturday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Newman made one eight-minute appearance during his time with the Cavaliers, scoring eight points (3-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) to go with one rebound and one assist in a Dec. 30 loss to the Wizards. He's expected to report back to the Cavaliers' G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge.

Newman is planning to sign a 10-day hardship contract with the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
In the G League, Newman was averaging 17.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds across 27.3 minutes per game for the Cleveland Charge. Newman will likely serve as a depth option while Darius Garland, Cedi Osman and Dylan Windler are all sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols.

Newman appeared in games Feb. 21 and Feb. 23 with the Charge once his 10-day deal came to an end, but he was sidelined for Tuesday's win over the College Park Skyhawks on account of a calf injury, per Josh Weir of The Canton Repository. Before leaving the Cavaliers, Newman had the chance to make his NBA debut, making a four-minute appearance Feb. 9 in a blowout loss to the Clippers.

Newman agreed to terms on a 10-day contract with the Cavaliers on Sunday.
Newman will help provide point guard depth for his new team.
