Fears will slide to the bench Friday with Herbert Jones (ankle) returning to the starting lineup. It marks the first time since the second game of the season that the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft will come off the bench. In his two previous reserve appearances, Fears averaged 15.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 23.5 minutes per contest.
Fears had 12 points (4-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), five rebounds and two steals in 20 minutes during Wednesday's 112-104 loss to Detroit.
With Dejounte Murray (Achilles) and Jose Alvarado (oblique) both still on the shelf, Fears is settling in as New Orleans' top point guard during his rookie season while Jordan Poole's role fluctuates as well. Although the Pelicans continue to struggle, Fears has been a bright spot for the Pelicans. Over his last four games, he's shooting 45.1 percent from the field with averages of 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.3 three-pointers in 26.6 minutes per contest.

Fears reached the 20-point mark for the first time since Dec. 14, finishing as New Orleans' second-leading scorer on efficient shooting. While the rookie first-rounder ended December with a two-game stretch in which he totaled nine points, he has scored at least 18 points in back-to-back games. He has finished with 18-plus points in three of his last five outings, averaging 13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 26.8 minutes per game over that stretch.

Fears missed all four of his three-pointers and needed 19 shots to score 18 points, but he still posted a solid line while ending just two boards away from a double-double. Fears delivered a much-needed bounce-back performance here, as he was coming off five straight games with 12 or fewer points. The rookie point guard will have some ups and downs, but for the most part, he's been a reliable offensive weapons for the Pelicans.

It wasn't a great outing for Fears, who committed a team-high four turnovers and was the only Pelicans starter to finish with a negative point differential (minus-9). Fears averaged 15.7 points per game across his first 25 starts of the season, but he's accumulated just 14 points over his last two outings, and his minutes have noticeably dipped over his last five games. Fears and the Pelicans play four games next week, starting with Monday's home tilt against the Mavericks.

Ejection aside, Fears had a subpar performance Saturday after struggling with his shot. Fantasy managers should still be happy with the rookie's contributions, as he recorded at least two tallies in four of the five major categories. Still, his shooting woes are slowly becoming a concern. He's made only 18 of his 47 shots (38.2 percent) from the field over his last four games.
