ALCORN STATE, Miss. (AP) De'Lance Turner churned out a career-high 272 yards with two touchdowns rushing and another score receiving as Alcorn State overcame an early 14-point deficit to beat Southern 48-31 in a Southwestern Conference opener Saturday.

Turner carried 21 times, averaging 13 yards per carry. P.J. Simmons added 60 yards rushing and two touchdowns and Lenorris Footman threw for 56 yards and two scores.

The Braves (2-2, 1-0) trailed 17-3 in the second, but Footman's 17-yard touchdown throw to Turner cut it to 17-10. Alcorn State trailed 24-20 at the break.

The Braves scored four second-half touchdowns. Turner had runs of 52 and 49 yards, Simmons scored from 11 yards out and Footman fired a 14-yard pass to Marquis Warford.

The Jaguars (1-3, 0-1) scored on a fumble recovery by Aaron Tiller in the third quarter.

Austin Howard threw for 274 yards and two scores for Southern.
