DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) Jamaruz Thompkins and Akevious Williams each rushed for more than 100 yards and a touchdown - Thompkins ran for one, Williams passed for one - as Bethune-Cookman defeated Savannah State 24-12 on Saturday.

Bethune-Cookman (2-3, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) rushed for 300 yards, had no turnovers and held the ball for nearly 36 minutes in its home opener to stifle winless Savannah State (0-4, 0-2). The Wildcats did, however, commit 14 penalties for 147 yards.

Larry Brihm Jr. put the Wildcats on the board with a 10-yard run in the first quarter and Uriel Hernandez added a 32-yard field goal for a 10-2 halftime lead. Thompkins burst free for a 69-yard scoring run late in the third quarter and Williams hit Que'Shaun Byrd from the 6 for the game's final TD, answering a Savannah State drive that had cut the lead to 17-12.

Rashad Saxton rushed for 103 yards and score for Savannah State.
