Middle Tennessee 49, Georgia Tech 28: Benny Cunningham rushed for 217 yards and scored five touchdowns as Middle Tennessee (3-1) upset Georgia Tech (2-3, 1-2 ACC) in Atlanta, 49-28. A school-record four rushing touchdowns by QB Tevin Washington weren’t enough as the Yellow Jackets allowed 510 yards of offense to the Blue Raiders.

Duke 34, Wake Forest 27: Conner Vernon tied the ACC career record for catches (232), and Duke (4-1, 1-0 ACC) beat Wake Forest (3-2, 1-2 ACC) for the first time since 1999. The game was costly for both teams as Wake Forest WR Michael Campanaro broke his hand in the first half and didn’t return. Duke QB Sean Renfree suffered an apparent elbow injury in the second half and didn’t return.

North Carolina 66, Idaho 0: North Carolina (3-2, 0-1 ACC) broke a 98-year-old school record for points in a game, overwhelming winless Idaho (0-5) of the Wesern Athletic Conference. No. 17 Clemson 45, Boston College 31: Tigers QB Tajh Boyd passed for 367 yards, including 197 to WR DeAndre Hopkins, as Clemson (4-1, 1-1 ACC) won at Boston College (1-3, 0-2 ACC). Cincinnati 27, Virginia Tech 24: Bearcats QB Munchie Legaux hit WR Damon Julian for a 39-yard touchdown with 13 seconds left to give Cincinnati (3-0, 1-0 Big East) a win over Virginia Tech (3-2, 1-0 ACC) at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. Legaux threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas threw for 242 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing score. He hit WR Corey Fuller for a 56-yard touchdown with 1:49 left to give the Hokies a 24-20 lead.

Louisiana Tech 44, Virginia 38: Trailing 24-10 in the second quarter, Louisiana Tech (4-0) scored 34 consecutive points for its second road win in a row over an opponent from a BCS automatic qualifying conference. Virginia (2-3, 0-1 ACC) outgained the Bulldogs 625-385, but the Cavaliers turned the ball over three times and committed 16 penalties, the final one for an illegal substitution that allowed Louisiana Tech to run out the clock. Virginia backup QB Phillip Sims threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns in relief of Michael Rocco, who threw three interceptions.

No. 4 Florida State 30, South Florida 17: The Seminoles followed their win over Clemson last week with a solid performance in their second-ever meeting with South Florida (2-3, 0-1 Big East). Florida State (5-0, 2-0 ACC) outgained the Bulls 423-268, and QB EJ Manuel was efficient, going 19 of 26 for 242 yards and a touchdown. WR Rashad Greene had 71 receiving yards and a 10-yard touchdown run. (For more on the game, check out CBSSports.com's Eye on College Football blog here)

Play of the week: Miami QB Morris dropped back to pass on third-and-11 with 32 seconds left in the game and the score tied at 37. Dorsett came down with the pass and took it in for a 62-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds left to give Miami the the game-winning score.

Runner-up: Legaux’s 39-yard touchdown pass to Julian with 13 seconds left to give Cincinnati the win over Virginia Tech.

He said what? Virginia Tech CB Kyle Fuller on Cincinnati's game-winning touchdown, according to Mark Giannotto of The Washington Post:

RapidReports defensive star of the day: DE Cornellius (Tank) Carradine, Florida State. Carradine made the play that sealed the game for the Seminoles at South Florida. On the final play of the third quarter, Carradine sacked Bulls QB Matt Floyd, who lost the ball. LB Christian Jones scooped up the fumble and took it in for a touchdown and a 30-10 lead. Carradine finished with 1.5 sacks, giving him a team-high seven for the year.

RapidReports offensive star of the day: QB Morris, Miami. After his record-setting performance against NC State, Morris has thrown for 1,002 yards the past two weeks. More importantly, he gives this young Miami team a calm presence under center and that was on full display on his final touchdown pass to Dorsett. Morris never panicked and kept his eyes downfield.

His seat is getting uncomfortable: Al Groh, Georgia Tech. Groh is in his third year as the defensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets, and this was supposed to be the year his unit made a significant leap. The past two games have shown that there has not been much progress. One week after allowing Miami to gain 609 yards in a 42-36 overtime loss, Georgia Tech allowed Middle Tennessee 510 yards in Saturday’s 49-28 loss.

A possible spot on the bench for: NC State’s secondary. The Wolfpack secondary was supposed to be a major strength of this team, but they allowed 333 passing yards to Tennessee in the opener and 566 yards to Miami on Saturday. CB David Amerson, who many project to be a first-round NFL Draft pick, was beaten on multiple occasions again Saturday. NC State needs to get it together before hosting Florida State next weekend.

Why you care about these three stat lines:

  1. Miami WR Dorsett had seven catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Dorsett topped last week’s performance when he had nine catches for 184 yards and a touchdown against Georgia Tech. With the emergence of Dorsett, the Hurricanes have plenty of weapons at their skill positions and should be able to put up plenty of points the rest of the season.
  2. Virginia QB Rocco threw three interceptions against Louisiana Tech. The quarterback controversy has been brewing in Charlottesville. After Rocco’s three interceptions and Virginia’s third consecutive loss, coach Mike London might have to turn to Alabama-transfer Phillip Sims when the Cavaliers resume ACC play next weekend at Duke.
  3. Virginia Tech allowed Cincinnati to throw for 392 yards. The last time the Hokies allowed a team to throw for that many yards was against Aaron Rodgers and California (394) in the 2003 Insight Bowl. Virginia Tech shuffled the secondary in the offseason, moving Kyshoen Jarrett and Detrick Bonner from cornerback to safety and Antone Exum from safety to cornerback. The defensive backfield struggled Saturday, particularly Exum. The Hokies allowed 19.6 yards per completion against Cincinnati.

Key number: 3-0. Miami is 3-0 in ACC play for the first time since 2004, its first year in the conference. With their quick start, the Hurricanes are a contender in the Coastal Division race.
