Here are some news and notes from around the ACC on Thursday:
- Boston College running back Rolandan Finch hurt his foot in Wednesday's scrimmage, according to Rich Thompson of the Boston Herald. The Eagles have already seen tight end Chris Pantale and cornerback Al Louis-Jean go down with foot injuries this preseason.
- Virginia true freshman cornerback Maurice Canady is pushing for a starting spot, wrote Andrew Ramspacher of the Daily Progress. The secondary is the biggest concern for coach Mike London.
- Georgia Tech's wide receivers are hoping to surprise people, according to Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The returning wide receivers have zero combined college receptions.
- Clemson right tackle Gifford Timothy is unlikely to start the opener against Auburn, wrote Travis Sawchik of The Post and Courier. Timothy had arthroscopic surgery on his knee last week after suffering a meniscus injury.
- Virginia Tech right guard Brent Benedict has lost weight, wrote Mark Giannotto of the Washington Post. Benedict transferred to Virginia Tech from Georgia before last season, and he is down to 304 pounds.
