- The last Sunday before the regular season is the day most major newspapers in the ACC rolled out their special ACC preview sections. Joe Giglio of the Charlotte Observer picked Clemson over Tech" data-canon="Virginia Cavaliers" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" id="shortcode0"> in the title game. Three Roanoke Times writers chose Florida State over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and North Carolina (which is not eligible for the game). One picked the Hokies over the Seminoles. Lenox Rawlings of the Winston-Salem Journal picked Virginia Tech over NC State.
- Miami RB Mike James is about to start his senior year with the Hurricanes. He’s experienced tremendous loss in his four years in Miami, including his mother’s death in a car accident two years ago. Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald spoke to James about his journey.
- If Wake Forest got a few breaks in close games against Syracuse, Notre Dame, Clemson and Mississippi State last year, they could have finished 10-3. If a few plays had gone the other way against Boston College, NC State, Florida State and Duke, they could have gone 2-10. Jim Grobe told Dan Collins of the Winston-Salem Journal to expect another season on the edge.
- Virginia’s offense has a position with several players capable of starting. They’ll provide depth and lift each other’s performance as they compete for playing time. Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch talked to the players who’ll be competing not for snaps at QB or RB, but at TE.
- Boston College DB Sean Silva missed time this preseason with a hamstring injury, but he’s come on strong since returning to the field. Coach Frank Spaziani isn’t sure where Silva will play, but he told the Boston Herald’s Rich Thompson that he’ll get him on the field somewhere.
