- Freshman WR Stefon Diggs was the star of Maryland’s scrimmage, Saturday. Diggs scored three TDs three different ways: 68-yard punt return, 98-yard kickoff return, and a 10-yard pass from QB Perry Hills. “Stefon performed well, but you have to take in to consideration that that was the scout team that was out there,” coach Randy Edsall told Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun afterward.
- Miami’s scrimmage on Saturday was cut short by lightning midway through the second quarter. RBs Mike James and <span data-shortcode= Johnson" data-canon="Duke Johnson" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_PLAYER" id="shortcode0"> both rushed for TDs, and DL Kelvin Cain recorded a safety, according to a report released by the school.
- B-Back Broderick Snoddy had a 70-yard TD run and backup QB Vad Lee ran for one TD and threw two to A-back B.J. Bostic in Georgia Tech’s scrimmage on Saturday. Despite the big plays, coach Paul Johnson wasn’t happy. “It was a little bit ragged,” Johnson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Ken Sugiura. “All in all, there were a lot of mistakes.”
- QB Tajh Boyd threw for 218 yards, but the star of Clemson’s scrimmage, Saturday, was sophomore WR Martavis Bryant, who had 97 yards receiving and caught two TDs. “I thought Martavis Bryant had an excellent day,” coach Dabo Swinney said in a report on the scrimmage released by the school. “ Our playmakers showed up early and made some plays.”
- Backup QB Brandon Connette scored two TDs in Duke’s scrimmage, Friday night, but neither came when he was lined up at the QB position. Connette, who will be used in a variety of ways in the Blue Devils offense, caught a pass from Sean Renfree for 15-yards, and ran 36 yards for another score, according to a scrimmage report released by the school.
