LSU's kicking game is a big reason why the Tigers are ranked No. 1 in several polls.
First-team All-SEC punter Brad Wing booted 18 punts of more than 50 yards last season and pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 27 times. He helped LSU rank third nationally in net punting (41.15).
LSU's advantage over Tennesee, which ranked last in the SEC in net punting, was nearly six yards per punt.
Wing has said he wants to "revolutionize his position," and so far he's backed up his bravado.
With Wing booming punts and putting them where he wants, opponents gained a total of 73 return yards all season.
Second-team All-SEC kicker Drew Alleman enters his senior season as the most accurate kicker in LSU history. He nailed 16 of 18 field goals (89 percent) last year, including his last 10 tries. Alleman also hit 62 of 63 PATs, the only miss coming after a bobbled snap against Oregon.
There was no dropoff when Alleman took over last year for All-American Josh Jasper.
Contenders
Florida: Coach Will Muschamp says he's got the nation's best kicker in Caleb Sturgis. The senior made 22 of 26 field goals (85 percent) last year, and was one of only two FBS kickers to hit three field goals of 50-plus yards. The first-team All-SEC kicker is 46 for 60 on field goals (77 percent) in his career.
Arkansas: Third-team All-SEC kicker Zach Hocker hit 21 of 27 field goals (78 percent) and ranked second nationally with 40 touchbacks. Third-team All-SEC punter Dylan Breeding led the SEC with a 45.3-yard punting average.
Auburn: Second-team All-SEC punter Steven Clark put 33 punts inside the 20 last year, which ranked third nationally. He was the first Ray Guy award finalist in Auburn history.
