Nevada quarterback Carson Strong, one of the most prolific passers in college football, announced on Tuesday that he will forgo his senior season and sit out the Quick Lane Bowl vs. Western Michigan to prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft. Strong, a junior, threw for 4,175 yards and 36 touchdowns this season.
"As much as I would like to play one more season or even one more game in my Nevada uniform, after a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided that it is best for me to begin my preparation for the 2022 NFL Draft," he wrote. "It is my hope over these next few months that there is at least one NFL team that belives in me the same way that Coach [Jay] Norvell, [offensive coordinator Mike] Mumme and the entire Nevada coaching staff did back in 2018."
Strong threw for 2,335 yards in 10 games in 2019, his redshirt freshman season. He broke out during his redshirt sophomore season in 2020, throwing for 2,858 yards, 27 touchdowns and only four interceptions in nine games. This, despite being a three-star prospect and the No. 2,171 overall player in the Class of 2018.
"When I was in high school, there was only one college that believed in me enough to give me a scholarship," he wrote. "Over the past four years, I have done everything I could to prove to the University of Nevada that they made the right decision in believing in me. It has been my life's greatest joy to play the greatest game with these teammates, for these coaches and for all of the Wolf Pack fans."
The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Vacaville, California, is regarded as one of the top draft-eligible quarterbacks in the upcoming class. CBS Sports ranks him as the No. 36 overall player and No. 4 quarterback behind Matt Corral, Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis.
