Clemson is loaded with talent that, coupled with a strong recruiting class, has created competition at several positions. Here are three areas to watch as camp shifts into high gear.

- Strong-side LB: Junior Quandon Christian started last season, but he’s being pushed by true freshman Travis Blanks, who was a top-rated safety in high school. “We have a good competition there,” defensive coordinator Brent Venables told the media after one of the team’s first practices. “I’m excited because competition makes everyone better.” Sophomore Lateek Townsend could also see time.
- Weak-side LB: Jonathan “Tig” Willard is the returning starter, but he finds himself in the midst of a battle royal for the job. Senior Corico Wright (formerly Corico Hawkins) moved over from middle LB. “From what I’ve seen up to this point, I feel comfortable with the two of them giving us one really good quality player that that will gives us consistency, knows what to do, and will play at a high level,” Venables said. “Tig is battling now. It will be fun to watch.” Junior Justin Parker and Sophomore Tony Steward are also in the mix.
- Right tackle: Sophomore Gifford Timothy is the early favorite to replace Landon Walker, but he’ll be pushed by a group of freshmen. Redshirt freshman Joe Gore and Shaq Anthony are right behind him, and true freshman Isaiah Battle has impressed the coaching staff.
