TCU sophomore defensive end Devonte Fields was the only unanimous selection to the the Preseason All-Big 12 team, as chosen by the media and announced by the league on Wednesday.
Fields was named the league's Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 2012 after leading the league in tackles for loss (18.5) and recording 10 sacks in his freshman campaign. On Wednesday, he was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year though the Freshman All-American will be suspended for TCU's first two games for an undisclosed violation of university and team policy.
Baylor junior running back Lache Seastrunk was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the media. Seastrunk began to look like the highly-touted prospect whom many anticipated during the second half of last season, recording 831 yards in Baylor's final six games -- averaging 8.15 yards per carry and helping lead the Bears to a 5-1 finish.
Former Houston running back Charles Sims, who transferred to West Virginia in the offseason and will be eligible immediately as a senior, was named the Preseason Newcomer of the Year. Sims missed some time due to injury in 2012 but still recorded 851 rushing yards, 373 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns for the Cougars.
