No. 3 Georgia cruised to a 27-8 rivalry win over No. 17 Florida on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta behind a 4-1 edge in turnover margin. The Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 SEC) extended their lead to 24-0 on a 66-yard scoop-and-score from star linebacker Chris Cole in the final minute of the first half.
UGA never looked back while extending its winning streak against Florida (5-3, 3-3) to six games with a drama-free win. The Bulldogs dominated the running game on both sides, limiting Florida star running back Jadan Baugh to just 38 yards on 17 carries while racking up 11 tackles for loss.
Florida's struggles in run blocking also bled over into pass protection. After being flushed from the pocket on the game's opening series, Gators starting quarterback Aaron Philo flung a desperation heave into the air while falling to the turf that Georgia's Ellis Robinson IV intercepted.
After his second interception of the half, Philo was replaced by Tramell Jones Jr., who didn't fare much better. On Cole's scoop-and-score late in the first half, Georgia's Quintavius Johnson came around the blind side and walloped Jones just before he released a pass.
Georgia's offense sputtered at times as quarterback Gunner Stockton completed just 13 of 23 passes for 101 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. But a dominant defensive showing took the pressure off and carried UGA to a much-needed SEC win.
