Georgia Tech returns the ACC’s second and third leading touchdown makers from last season, and the defense has the third-ranked returning leader in sacks. Here are some less-familiar names who will have to get on the radar for the Yellow Jackets to have a successful season.
X-factor on offense: Robert Godhigh is a former walk-on with 18 career rushing yards. The junior is slated to be the starting A-back for Georgia Tech. Lining up in the backfield with QB Tevin Washington and A-back Orwin Smith, Godhigh will need to establish himself as a dependable third option in Georgia Tech’s triple option.
X-factor on defense: DE Emmanuel Dieke is fighting for a starting position opposite Izaan Cross. The 6-6 270-pound junior will add size to the defensive line as well as a pass-rushing threat. The Yellow Jackets had the ACC’s most-productive offense, but a defense that gave up 26 ppg made it tough to outscore every opponent.
X-factor on special teams: Paul Johnson hired his first special teams coordinator since he arrived at Georgia Tech. Dave Walkosky arrived from the CFL and is responsible for turning around a special teams unit that ranked last in the ACC in kickoff returns and near the bottom in field goals and punting.
