Actor and Texas superfan Matthew McConaughey is unhappy with how the school's fanbase acted during an incident in Saturday's loss to Georgia. During the game, play was halted following a controversial call and Texas fans began throwing objects onto the field at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
As a result, McConaughey released a statement in which he called the behavior a "bogey move," and wasn't a fan of how Longhorns fans behaved.
"First off, you were electric Saturday night when we hosted Georgia. Bravo. Let's continue to bring it. Even though our Horns didn't get the W, you created a measurable home field advantage," McConaughey said in a statement that was posted to social media on Monday night. "But let's get real about the bottle bombing the field glitch we had. Not cool. Bogey move. Yeah, that call was BS, but we're better than that. Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show out like no other, and still keep our class.
"So, going forward, let's clean that kind of BS up and leave that behind us for good. We have to shake hands on that.
"Next up, November 9th, when the Gators come to town, let's make sure they feel the heat, can't hear the play calls, and burn their timeouts – but remember, nothing hits OUR field except that Texas fight.
"Till then, root hard and Hook em."
The scenario unfolded in the third quarter when a pass interference penalty was initially called on a play in which Texas intercepted Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. After objects were hurled onto the field, the call ended up being overturned.
The SEC fined Texas $250,000 in addition to imposing several other non-financial sanctions as a result of objects being thrown onto the field.
Texas, who was previously ranked No. 1, lost to No. 5 Georgia 30-15 after the Bulldogs raced out to a 23-0 lead in the first half. It marked the first loss of the 2024 season for the Longhorns.
