It wasn't the campaign the defending national champions were looking for, but Michigan's 7-5 season took a turn for the better in November. First, the Wolverines landed No. 1 prospect quarterback Bryce Underwood on Nov. 21. The Wolverines followed that up with a stunning win over rival Ohio State on Nov. 30, giving them huge momentum heading into the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama and into the 2024 college football transfer portal, which runs from Monday, Dec. 9 to Sunday, Dec. 28.

Michigan football transfer portal news, preview

The Wolverines had two starters enter the portal early, as punter Tommy Doman and receiver Tyler Morris, the team's second-leading receiver last season, are both on the way out. Morris is a bit of a surprise because he led all Michigan receivers with 23 catches for 248 yards this season, finishing only behind tight end Colston Loveland in those categories.

Finding reinforcements in the passing game will be a priority in the portal for the Wolverines as they look to build around Underwood in 2025 and beyond. With Loveland likely going pro, receiver Semaj Morgan (134 yards) is the team's leading returning receiver from 2024 expected to be on the roster at this point.

Michigan will again need to reload on defense as well with cornerback Will Johnson and defensive linemen Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham all looking like early 2025 NFL Draft picks. Get all the latest 2024 Michigan football transfer portal updates at The Michigan Insider
