West Virginia running back Shawne Alston is out for Saturday's game vs. No. 11 Texas. (US Presswire) |
Big 12 Injury Report
RB Shawne Alston, West Virginia, (thigh)
Next game: at No. 11 Texas, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (FOX)
Alston is out for Saturday’s game vs. Texas with a thigh bruise, the third straight game the Mountaineers' power back will miss. He was limited in practice on Tuesday and won't make the trip to Austin. His absence puts more of a strain on Geno Smith and the passing game, which wasn't hindered without him last weekend as West Virginia posted 70 points in the win over Baylor.
LB Jordan Hicks, Texas, (ankle)
Next game: vs. No. 8 West Virginia, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (FOX)
The Longhorns will be without Hicks (23 tackles, three for loss), one of their best defenders, on Saturday against the Mountaineers. It will have less of an impact if Alston can’t play, but linebacker is already one of Longhorns' weakest positions. Hicks also missed last week’s game vs. Oklahoma State when the Cowboys put up 576 yards of total offense against Texas. The Longhorns will also be without RB Malcolm Brown (ankle), but they can sustain that injury with capable halfbacks Joe Bergeron and Johnathan Gray healthy.
RB Matthew Tucker, TCU, (ankle)
Next game: vs. Iowa State, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET
Tucker is a game-time decision for Saturday’s matchup against the Cyclones. Coach Gary Patterson had said that the Horned Frogs considered using backup quarterback Trevone Boykin in the backfield, but with QB Casey Pachall’s suspension, that’s no longer an option. Tucker is the team’s leading rusher with 208 yards and a touchdown on the season.
Big East Injury Report
S Drew Frey, Cincinnati, (neck)
Next game: vs. Miami (Ohio), Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN3)
Frey left last weekend’s game against Virginia Tech with a sprained neck and back but has been cleared to play Saturday against the Redhawks, according to coach Butch Jones. The Bearcats will need the veteran presence against Miami because the pass-first offense averages 285 yards per game, the 30th best mark in the country.
NT Isaac Holmes, Rutgers, (wrist)
Next game: vs. Connecticut, Saturday, noon ET (ESPNU)
The Scarlet Knights’ 10th-ranked defense (12.8 ppg) suffered a huge blow when it lost Holmes for the season last week to a wrist injury in the win over Arkansas. The 6-3 Holmes was a huge cog in the middle for the defense, which has allowed just 62.5 rushing yards per game through four games. This weekend’s opponent, Connecticut, averages just 112 yards per game. Expect four-year starter Scott Vallone to replace Holmes on the line.
LB Todd Thomas, Pittsburgh, (knee)
Next game: at Syracuse, Friday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Thomas, a sophomore, hasn’t played this year since injuring his knee in preseason, but coach Paul Chryst expects him back for Friday’s game. As a freshman, Thomas started six games and finished the year with 47 tackles. Chryst was unsure how he’d rotate Thomas with current starting linebacker Eric Williams. Also, defensive end Jack Lippert, who has missed the last two games, won’t play against the Orange.
T Justin Pugh, Syracuse, (shoulder)
Next game: vs. Pittsburgh, Friday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)
The Orange will get a huge boost to their offensive line Friday night when Pugh returns to the lineup after an offseason shoulder injury. Pugh was a 2011 All-Big East tackle and should help improve a rushing offense that’s only 83rd in the country (145 ypg). “I’ve been waiting six months for this,” he told Dave Rahme of the Post-Standard.
Duke QB Sean Renfree has been the focal point of the Blue Devils offense this year, but he may not play Saturday because of an elbow injury. (US Presswire) |
ACC Injury Report
QB Sean Renfree, Duke, (elbow)
Next game: vs. Virginia, Saturday, 3 p.m. ET (ESPN3)
Renfree will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Cavaliers. The senior has been the focal point of the offense this year, averaging 256 yards per game and throwing for nine touchdowns. He's also completed the second-most passes in the ACC behind Miami’s Stephen Morris. If Renfree can’t play, backup sophomore QB Anthony Boone will start in his place. S Brandon Baxton, who has 28 tackles this year, is out.
OG Zach Allen, NC State, (foot)
Next game: vs. No. 3 Florida State, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Allen, a three-year starter, injured his leg in last weekend’s loss to Miami and will miss the rest of the year. Offensive linemen Rob Crisp and Andrew Wallace are going to miss the game as well, making Saturday’s game against the Seminoles even more of a challenge. It will be N.C. State’s fourth different OL combination in six games. The Wolfpack have gotten great production this year from their backfield combination of Tony Creecy (250 yards, three TDs) and Shadrach Thornton (232 yards, two TDs).
WR Michael Campanaro, Wake Forest, (hand)
Next game: at Maryland, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Campanaro’s broken right hand is a huge loss for the Demon Deacons passing attack. His 38 receptions were the second-most in the ACC, and they equaled the production of Wake’s next four receivers on the depth chart. He tweeted that he expects to be back in three weeks for the Oct. 25 game vs. Clemson.
LB Denzel Perryman, Miami, (leg)
Next game: at No. 9 Notre Dame, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
Perryman has missed the last two games but will play Saturday at Soldier Field against the Irish. In three games before the injury, he had 16 tackles and a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Hurricanes can use all the help they can get on defense after being gouged for 664 yards in last weekend’s win over N.C. State.
LB Jeremiah Attaochu, Georgia Tech, (undisclosed)
Next game: at No. 15 Clemson, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Attaochu missed last weekend’s loss to Middle Tennessee State and was limited in practice this week but is expected to return Saturday against the Tigers. The Yellow Jackets will also welcome back cornerback Louis Young, who’s missed the last two games with an upper body injury.
WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson, (virus)
Next game: vs. Georgia Tech, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Watkins missed last weekend’s game against Boston College but fully recovered and should play Saturday. Tajh Boyd still had 367 passing yards despite Watkins' absence against Boston College.
Pac-12 Injury Report
DE Aaron Tipoti, California, (knee)
Next game: vs. No. 25 UCLA, Saturday, 10 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Tipoti missed last weekend’s loss to Arizona State and is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Bruins. If he can’t go, backup Todd Barr will replace him.
LB Michael Clay, Oregon, (leg)
Next game: vs. No. 23 Washington, Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Clay injured his leg on a first-half sack last weekend against Washington State and watched the second half from the sidelines. Oregon coaches are being coy about his status, but he did tell Rob Moseley of the Registerguard.com that he was preparing for the Huskies. “Take it from there, day to day,” he said. Clay has 21 tackles and two sacks in the last two games.
WR Devin Lucien, UCLA, (collarbone)
Next game: at California, Saturday, 10 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Lucien, a promising redshirt freshman, broke his clavicle and is out for the season. He was third on the Bruins in receiving with 188 yards on 10 catches through five games.
OL Ben Riva, Washington, (forearm)
Next game: at No. 2 Oregon, Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Riva broke his arm in the season opener against San Diego State, and there’s speculation that he could return Saturday against the Ducks. Riva played in 10 of 13 games last year as a freshman. The tackle could help improve the Huskies’ 106th ranked rushing offense.
Ohio State RB Jordan Hall has a knee injury and will miss Saturday's game against No. 21 Nebraska. (AP) |
Big Ten Injury Report
RB Jordan Hall, Ohio State (knee)
Next game: vs. No. 21 Nebraska, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Hall injured his right knee last Saturday against Michigan State, and he is out for Saturday’s game against the Huskers. Last weekend marked the first time that Hall and power back Carlos Hyde were both healthy, but that was short lived. Two weekends ago against UAB, Hall had a career-high 105 yards along with two catches for 21 yards.
LB Jonathan Brown, Illinois, (leg)
Next game: at Wisconsin, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Tim Beckman said Brown will be re-evaluated throughout the week as the Illini prepare to take on Wisconsin in Camp Randall. Brown had a season-low three tackles in the home loss to Penn State last weekend.
S Ibraheim Campbell, Northwestern, (shoulder)
Next game: at Penn State, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Campbell sustained a shoulder injury in the victory over Indiana last weekend but has practiced this week and is expected to play against the Nittany Lions. Campbell is the Wildcats’ top man in the secondary and will attempt to slow down the Big Ten’s best receiver, Allen Robinson. Campbell has 26 tackles on the year.
RB Ralph Bolden, Purdue, (knee)
Next game: vs. Michigan, Saturday, 4 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network)
Bolden, the Boilermakers’ top running back last year, may return Saturday from an ACL tear that’s kept him out since the end of last year. Bolden had 674 yards last year and six touchdowns. Purdue quarterback Robert Marve, who tore his ACL on Sept 9th, may return as well Saturday against the Wolverines. Coach Danny Hope doesn’t need to rush either one of them back as the Boilermakers have been one of the most efficient offenses in the Big Ten, passing for 262 yards per game and rushing for over 200 ypg.
SEC Injury Report
LB Jelani Jenkins, Florida (thumb)
Next game: vs. No. 4 LSU, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
Jenkins, who had a pin removed from his broken thumb last Friday, is practicing and has been cleared to play. Jenkins (five tackles on the year) has missed the last two games and the Gators will need him against the Tigers’ 18th ranked rushing attack (229.6 ypg).
TE Chris Gragg, Arkansas (leg)
Next game: at Auburn, Saturday, noon ET (ESPN2)
Gragg, the Razorbacks’ second-leading receiver, has a deep bone bruise that kept him out of last week’s loss to Texas A&M. He had not been medically cleared as of late Wednesday. The senior has caught 19 balls for 236 yards and two TDs.
RB CoShik Williams, Kentucky, (hip)
Next game: vs. Mississippi State, Saturday, 12:21 p.m. ET (SEC Network)
The fifth-year senior tore the labrum in his hip, ending his career. Jonathan George, Raymond Sanders and Dyshawn Mobley all will get more work in Williams’ absence.
WR, Michael Bennett, Georgia, (ACL)
Next game: at No. 6 South Carolina, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Bennett, the Bulldogs' leading receiver, is done for the season after tearing his ACL in practice on Tuesday. The redshirt sophomore had 24 catches for 345 yards and four touchdowns through four games. Malcolm Mitchell, who started the season as a CB, is expected to get more time at WR, the position he played last year. For more on Bennett’s injury, check out our Eye on College Football blog.
OL, Elvis Fisher, Missouri, (knee)
Next game: vs. Vanderbilt, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (FSN)
Fisher strained a ligament in his right knee against Georgia on Sept. 8 and hasn't played since. He is listed as the starter at LT, and coach Gary Pinkel expects him to play against Vanderbilt on Saturday. Fisher started every game for Missouri from 2008-10, but he missed last season with a torn ACL.
