NCAA transfer portal 2025: Live updates, college football transfer tracker, news powered by 247Sports

The NCAA transfer portal cycle for the 2025 college football season officially opened Monday, Dec. 9 and will close on Saturday, Dec. 28. Though some players have announced their intentions to transfer prior to Monday, they could not officially enter the portal until it opened.

Given that thousands of FBS players enter the portal each cycle and NIL has become a differentiating factor in player acquisition, expect to see plenty of movement this offseason in what has become one of the most important periods on the college football calendar.

In addition to the notable transfer players that will be listed below as the process continues over the next month, keep it locked here as CBS Sports and 247Sports cover the transfer portal window from top to bottom with a live tracker, updated rankings and much more. Lingering thoughts from Day 1

There's never quite been a day like Monday in the transfer portal's history. Five years ago during the 2019-20 cycle a total of 1,678 players entered the portal the entire year. As of Monday evening, with only one day for underclassmen to enter the portal, there are already 1,537 players FBS players listed in the NCAA database.

It was such an overwhelming number that an analytics database that many schools use to track portal entrants crashed for a good portion of the morning. The server couldn't handle the load. In the end around one thousand FBS players entered Monday, nearly double (530) what we saw on Day 1 of the winter window last year.

The reasons for this are numerous, but it's mostly just the reality of the schedule. The portal process is already compressed. The sooner you get in the sooner you can get recruited. Throw in shorter windows and there's historic early demand in terms of entries.

Read here for more takeaways for 247Sports subscribers, including a red-hot wide receiver market, a pretty bad quarterback market and what we can glean from schools drooling over always-on-the-move defensive tackle Bear Alexander.

Maalik Murphy enters the transfer portal

Duke quarterback Maalik Murphy is planning on entering the transfer portal, ESPN reported. The former Texas quarterback threw for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns during his lone season as Duke's starter. Murphy spent last season as Quinn Ewers' backup at Texas and will now presumably be looking for his third school in three years.
