Oklahoma vs. Western Carolina score: Sooners deliver emphatic shutout in preparation for Nebraska
The Sooners bounced back after a near upset against Tulane in Week 1
Oklahoma made an emphatic recovery from its narrow Week 1 victory over Tulane by thrashing Western Carolina 76-0 on Saturday to improve to 2-0. The No. 4 Sooners racked up 624 yards in the game and allowed just 178 as they aced their final tune-up before playing their first Power Five opponent next week when Nebraska comes to town.
Star quarterback Spencer Rattler completed 20-of-26 passes for 243 yards and five touchdowns in the game and did not play in the second half, which allowed Caleb Williams, a former five-star prospect, to get his first in-game reps for the Sooners. Williams completed 5-of-10 passes for 84 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and also ran for 60 yards on four attempts. In the end, 13 different players made catches for Oklahoma.
The Sooners dropped two spots from No. 2 in the AP Top 25 after the closer-than-expected 40-35 win over Tulane last week. But with No. 3 Ohio State losing to No. 12 Oregon on Saturday, Oklahoma is poised to slide up a spot in next week's polls following Saturday's convincing result. Additionally, two of the Sooners' top foes in the Big 12 also suffered nonconference losses Saturday as No. 9 Iowa State lost to No. 10 Iowa and No. 15 Texas got blown out at Arkansas.
