Oh, the carnage. (US Presswire) |
In roughly the million times that I've watched either the video or gif of Michigan's Vincent Smith getting destroyed by South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney, I never once wondered what it felt like for Smith. Frankly, I just assumed he was dead, but it turns out he survived the hit.
There's even proof. Smith was able to talk to ESPN.com's Michael Rosenberg about it.
"I couldn't duck or try anything," Smith said. "My head wasn't even down, and that's why my helmet popped off."
Smith also said the hit looked worse than it was. Considering I assumed he was dead and he isn't, I tend to believe him. Of course, Smith also said he has only watched the play "two or three times."
Well, Vincent, two or three times isn't enough. So just in case you're Googling yourself and come across this, have a few more glances.
Daily Progressions
-- North Carolina was not your ACC Coastal Division champion this season, but don't tell North Carolina that. In the Tar Heels' defense, if they didn't claim it Alabama probably would.
-- Manti Te'o's father is calling for people to stop reading the Honolulu Star-Advertiser after the paper featured a photo of Eddie Lacy running over his son on the front page. Now, in the paper's defense, there were no photos of Manti from the title game that didn't feature him being run over by Eddie Lacy. It pretty much happened on every play.
-- It turns out Stansly Maponga wasn't the only player TCU lost this week. Linebacker A.J. Hilliard is transferring to Texas A&M.
-- The Big Ten seems like a conference destined to be ruled by both Ohio State and Michigan once again, but is there any other team in the conference that could step up and shock everybody in 2013?
-- In recruiting/music news, the late Nate Dogg's son is being recruited by Northwestern, Oregon and UCLA. Oh, and if that's not enough '90s music for you, Nebraska has a commit named Courtney Love.
-- Nevada is trying to take advantage of having a very famous alum at the moment. Having been a fan of Colin Kaepernick for so long, I feel like a proud parent watching him in the NFL. He grew up so fast.
-- AJ McCarron is being awarded the key to Mobile, Ala. Of course, while he's accepting the award, it will probably be announced that Katherine Webb has won the Nobel Prize or something.
-- Since Kentucky took one of his coordinators in Mark Stoops, Jimbo Fisher figured it was only fair to return the favor.
