No. 21 Stanford 21, No. 2 USC 14: Stanford has Matt Barkley's number and that number is zero. For the first time since November 2010, the USC QB was held to zero touchdown passes in a shocking 21-14 loss to Stanford (3-0, 1-0 Pac-12 North). The Stanford defense harrassed Barkley for four quarters, sacking the Heisman Trophy candidate five times and forcing him to throw two interceptions while limiting him to only 254 passing yards. Offensively, the Cardinal got almost everything they needed from senior RB Stepfan Taylor. Taylor had 213 total yards and scored two of the Cardinal's three touchdowns. Taylor's first touchdown was on a 59-yard run, his second came on a 23-yard pass from Josh Nunes. Barkley is 0-4 in his career against Stanford, although he could get one more chance at a win if Stanford and USC (2-1, 0-1 Pac-12 South) were to meet in the Pac-12 title game. 

No. 12 Ohio State 35, Cal 28: Vincenzo D'Amato probably won't win any popularity contests in Berkeley any time soon. Cal's junior kicker missed three field goals against the Buckeyes (3-0) on Saturday, including a 42-yarder with 4:20 left in the game that would have given the Bears (1-2) a 31-28 lead. The D'Amato misses overshadowed strong performances by QBZach Maynard and backup RB Brendan Bigelow. Maynard threw for 280 yards and a touchdown and only made one big mistake, a fourth-quarter interception. Bigelow had a breakout game for the Bears, rushing for 160 yards and two touchdowns on four carries.

No. 4 Oregon 63, Tennessee Tech 14: De'Anthony Thomas continued his dark horse Heisman candidacy with another stellar game Saturday. The sophomore WR/RB/KR only touched the ball 10 times against the Golden Eagles, but he made the most of his opportunities with 222 total yards and two touchdowns. Marcus Mariota threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns before Oregon (3-0) coach Chip Kelly decided to show mercy in the third quarter by pulling his starters. 

Washington 52, Portland State 13: One week after receiving a beat down in the Bayou, Washington (2-1) delivered a beat down of their own. Keith Price threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns as the Huskies cruised. Sophomore RB Bishop Sankey crossed the 100-yard mark for the first time in his short career with 103 yards. The Huskies scored 45 points in the first half, tying a school record. 

Missouri 24, Arizona State 20: Arizona State (2-1) was on its way to an upset Saturday but came up short. The Sun Devils trailed Missouri 24-7 in the fourth quarter, but were able to trim the lead to four points behind two Marion Grice rushing touchdowns. The Sun Devils had two possessions in the game's final four minutes with a chance to take the lead, but they came up short both times, including a first-and-goal situation where they came away with no  points. ASU QB Taylor Kelly finished the game 14 of 23 for 177 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. 

Fresno State 69, Colorado 14: The game got ugly real fast for the Buffaloes (0-3) on Saturday. Powered by two scoring plays that went for over 90 yards, the Bulldogs took a 35-0 first quarter lead. Colorado QB Jordan Webb was largely ineffective, throwing for only 85 yards and a touchdown. 

Arizona 56, South Carolina State 0: QB Matt Scott threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Wildcats (3-0) pummeled FCS South Carolina State on Saturday. Scott totaled 349 yards, including 288 passing. The shutout was the Arizona's first since a season opening 70-0 win over Idaho in 2008. 

Utah 24, No. 25 BYU 21: Four times in six years, the Holy War has gone down to the final play. This year it came down to three. A bizarre ending resulted in Ute fans rushing the field twice only to see the Cougars (2-1) get two more chances to tie the game. A 36-yard field-goal attempt by <span data-shortcode=" data-canon="Riley Stephenson" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_PLAYER" id="shortcode0"> to tie the game hit the left upright, and Utah (2-1) escaped with the big rivalry win.

No. 22 UCLA 37, Houston 6: The Bruins (3-0) continued their fantastic start under first-time college head coach Jim Mora with what they called a disappointing win. UCLA fans used to major blowouts will take 567 yards of total offense and six takeaways any day. Redshirt freshman QB UCLA Bruins<span data-shortcode=" data-canon="Johnathan Franklin" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_PLAYER" id="shortcode0"> continued his strong start with 320 yards and two touchdowns, and the nation's leading rusher, Johnathan Franklin, added 110 yards on 25 carries.

Friday

Washington State 35, UNLV 27: Playing in relief of injured starting QB Jeff Tuel, backup Connor Halliday finally put some air in coach Mike Leach's Air Raid offense. Halliday threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns. Washington State (2-1) WRs Gabe Marks and Marquess Wilson each had more than 100 yards receiving with 126 and 110 yards, respectively.  

Play of the weekend: Cal RB Bigelow's 81-yard touchdown run against Ohio State may not just be the play of the weekend, it could be the play of the year. Bigelow took the handoff five yards behind the line of scrimmage and was almost stuffed there. Instead, he broke a tackle, spun out of another tackle, then when it looked like he was knocked down, he managed to keep his knee from hitting the ground. After maintaining his balance, Bigelow went 81 yards for the score. 

He said what? "My eyes got big. I got excited, maybe a bit too excited." Bigelow said describing how he reacted when he saw the hole he had to run through on his 59-yard touchdown run.  

RapidReports offensive star of the day: RB Bigelow, Cal. The Bears didn't beat Ohio State on Saturday, but no one will blame Bigelow. The sophomore rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns against the Buckeyes and that's not even the impressive part. What's impressive is he did it on four carries. Bigelow's touchdowns came on runs of 59 and 81 yards. 

RapidReports defensive star of the day: The Stanford defense. You don't need (Andrew) Luck when you have a defense like Stanford's. The Cardinal defense pressured USC QB Matt Barkley early and often on Saturday, forcing the Heisman candidate to make uncharacterisitic mistakes. Barkley threw two inteceptions and was sacked five times by a relentless Cardinal defense. 

His seat is getting uncomfortable: Jon Embree, Colorado. Winning an award two weeks in a row is usually a good thing, unless it's this one. A week after losing to FCS Sacramento State, Colorado didn't rebound to well against Fresno State. The Buffaloes fell behind 55-7 in the first half en route to a 69-14 loss. If Colorado doesn't turn things around quickly, Embree's second season could be his final one in Boulder. 

A possible spot on the bench for: K D'Amato, Cal. Bears fans will probably remember D'Amato's name for a long time and not for a good reason. The junior missed three field goals, costing the Bears nine points in a 35-28 loss to the Buckeyes. D'Amato missed twice from 42 yards and once from 40. The biggest miss came with 4:20 left in the fourth quarter when D'Amato misfired badly on a 42-yard attempt. 

Why you care about these two stat lines:

  1. Oregon's DeAnthony Thomas scores two more touchdowns against Tennessee Tech. Thomas might be rewriting the touchdown record books as we watch. Thomas' two scores on Saturday give him seven on the season in three games, and he's only touched the ball 24 times. With incredible quickness and balance, Thomas continues to be a major contributor to an Oregon running game that rushed for 324 yards.
  2. UCLA totals 567 yards of offense, and is left unsatisfied in win over Houston. The Rose Bowl has seen some truly anemic performances in recent years in the Pistol offense. Noel Mazzone's spread system, though, might blow the lights out of the recently renovated old gem. The Bruins piled on 567 yards and 29 first downs and it felt like a bad day. 

Key number: 0. The Stanford defense held Matt Barkley to zero touchdown passes Saturday, the first time Barkley has been held without a touchdown pass since a November 2010 loss to Oregon State.
