- If you're a DirecTV subscriber who was hoping to watch the Pac-12 Network this week, you're out of luck, reports Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News. According to Wilner, this doesn't mean a deal won't get done, it just means that it's highly unlikely a deal will get done in time for DirecTV to air the six games showing on the Pac-12 Network in Week 1 of the college football season.
- We mentioned on Tuesday that Orego State'sgame against Nicholls State could be postponed because of Hurricane Isaac. According to OSU, if Nicholls State can't get to Corvallis in time for Saturday's game, the game could be moved to Sunday or Monday.
- Oregon backup QB Bryan Bennett didn't practice with the team Tuesday, and it was reported that he was on the verge of transferring; all of this after losing the starting QB job to Marcus Mariota. However, after a heart-to-heart with coach Chip Kelly, it looks like Bennett is going to stay in Eugene, reports the Oregonian.
- The editors at Athlon Sports made their national championship game predictions Wednesday and all of them seemed to agree on one thing: a Pac-12 team will be in the title game. All nine editors have either Oregon or USC in the BCS Championship while eight of the editors have a Pac-12 team winning it all.
- Every Cal player wants to score the first touchdown at the newly renovated Memorial Stadium and that includes center Brian Schwenke. "I have worked it out in my head," Schwenke told the San Jose Mercury News. "I'll do some kind of dance, I've got moves." Schwenke's dream of scoring the first TD isn't completely far-fetched. Cal center Edwin Horrell scored the first touchdown at Memorial when the stadium originally opened in 1923.
- Washington plays three of top 5 teams in the country -- LSU, USC, Oregon -- in a span of six weeks this season, but even with that difficult schedule, Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times can envision the Huskies going 8-4 in 2012.
- Washington State coach Mike Leach is almost always a good interview, and he proved that again Wednesday by providing random answers to random questions from USA Today reporter Brent Schrotenboer. Among the many topics: Leach reveals who handles the tweeting from his Twitter account (Hint: he's married to her.)
- Finally, the Pac-12 season kicks off Thursday with four games. We have previews for each and every game: Washington State at BYU, Northern Colorado at Utah, Northern Arizona at Arizona State and UCLA at Rice.
