Oregon TE Colt Lyerla found the end zone twice against Cal on Saturday. (US Presswire) |
Offensive fireworks blasted almost the entire game and several players put up big numbers in Oregon's 59-17 win over Cal on Saturday, which is why you may have missed the two performances below.
Here's three under-the-radar performances from Week 11:
RB Isi Sofele, Cal: When your team loses 59-17, its hard to get noticed for anything you do, but don't overlook what Sofele did against Oregon. The senior running back ran for a season-high 134 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries against the Ducks. The most impressive part of Sofele's performance was that 132 of his 134 yards came when the game was still close. Sofele's third-quarter touchdown put him at 132 yards and trimmed Oregon's lead to 24-17. The Ducks blew up the scoreboard after that and Sofele only touched the ball once more. You can see him again: Saturday, at No. 15 Oregon State, 10:30 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network).
WR Dominique Williams, Washington State: WSU's all-time lead receiver Marquess Wilson quit the team last week, leaving a hole in the offense. Well, it didn't turnout to be that big of a hole, thanks to Williams. The freshman caught seven passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-36 loss to UCLA. Washington State, who trailed by 30 late in the third quarter, came within a recovered onside kick of making a dramatic comeback. Williams has gone over 50 yards receiving in each of the Cougars' last four games. You can see him again: Saturday, at Arizona State, 3 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network).
TE Colt Lyerla, Oregon: When your starting quarterback throws a school-record tying six touchdown passes and your starting receiver catches three, it's kind of hard to get noticed. That's what happened to Lyerla on Saturday, as Marcus Mariota threw six TD passes and Josh Huff caught three. Lyerla may not have been Oregon's offensive MVP in the 59-17 win over Cal, but he did have an impressive game. The sophomore caught four passes for 64 yards, including two touchdowns. It was only the third multi-touchdown game of Lyerla's career. You can see him again: Saturday, vs. No. 14 Stanford, 8 p.m. ET (ABC).
Others considered: K Trevor Romaine, Oregon State: 3 for 3 on FGs vs. Stanford. RB Christian Powell, Colorado: 32 carries, 137 yards, 2 touchdowns vs. Arizona. WR Kasen Williams, Washington: 7 catches, 73 yards, 1 touchdown vs. Utah.
