It might be a good idea to bring an umbrella to the Big Game -- there might be footballs raining everywhere...
Quarterback Josh Nunes, Stanford --The numbers aren't even as bad as Nunes looked against Washington ... and the numbers are pretty bad. Nunes finished 18 of 37 for 170 yards and one interception in the marquee Thursday night showdown but his play down the stretch doomed the Cardinal. He wasn't helped by a normally efficient running game that suddenly got stuck in the mud, but dismantled the Andrew Luck myth with a game-winning comeback. Instead, Luck survives.
Quarterback Zach Maynard, Cal -- We don't hate all Bay area quarterbacks -- OK, we kind of do; sorry Alex Smith and Carson Palmer -- but it is hard not to lump Maynard in with Nunes this week. If he continues to take his lumps, that is. Maynard was dragged down seven times by the Arizona State defense, dragging down the Cal offense along with him, and rising his sack total to 25 for the year, when he was sacked 27 times all of last year. Maybe he 9 of 26 passing for 126 yards was a result? Just maybe.
Running game, Colorado -- It is not fun to beat up on the Buffaloes, but almost everyone else is doing it, so why not us? The Buffaloes' one chance against UCLA was to generate a running game behind Christian Powell and Tony Jones. The Bruins biggest defensive weakness this year has been the running game leading to deep passing. Why couldn't Colorado test UCLA deep? Powell and Jones combined for just 60 yards on 15 carries.
